Damaris couldn't be happier about returning to Hogwarts after the holidays; she was eager to see her friends again and continue her magical studies. "Just make sure you don't do anything foolish, dear" her grandmother Laena asked with a kind smile, walking beside her while carrying her granddaughter's suitcase, wanting to share a few last moments with her before she left. "Pay attention. Try not to be so mad all the time, girl, smile" her grandfather Otto asked, following behind them with Tristán, Damaris's father. "I will, I promise," she assured them, though deep down she knew that wasn't entirely true; she would likely get into a bit of trouble with her friends, and that actually excited her quite a bit. They crossed over to Platform 9¾, and Damaris couldn't help but smile at the sight of the train—ready to depart—and the many students being seen off by their parents. She guided her grandmother through the crowd, trying not to bump into anyone with the luggage. Upon reaching the train door, Damaris turned to face them, taking the time to hug her grandparents. When she turned to her father, she smiled and swallowed hard, still tense about what had happened at home and what she had found out. "Don't do anything stupid..." her father said as he hugged her awkwardly. "I won't..." she replied somewhat curtly, pulling away from the hug while looking him up and down, as if searching for something. "Were you planning to tell me... about her?" she finally asked, crossing her arms as she waited for his answer. "I was......but you were so excited about Hogwarts that I didn't want to..."
"Didn't want to what? You should have told me you were seeing... her" she reproached him, trying not to raise her voice, as she hated drawing attention to herself. "It doesn't bother me that you're seeing her, okay? It bothers me that you didn't tell me" she said, clenching her jaw. "Tell you? Do I need your permission to date someone?"
"That’s not what I mean, dad," Damaris assured him, rolling her eyes—annoyed by what he was implying. " I just mean that......it would have been nice to hear it from you instead of listening to my grandparents talk about it... let alone finding her at the house when I got back from Hogwarts" she explained, gripping her own arms and digging her nails slightly into her skin to stifle her emotions. When Damaris had returned from Hogwarts after her first year, her grandparents had met her at the platform; it hadn't bothered her at the time, but upon arriving home—expecting to see her father and run to hug him—she had found a woman sitting comfortably in the living room armchair, embracing him. It had come as a complete surprise. She later learned from her grandparents that Tristán had been dating the woman for a few years without telling her. It wasn't that she minded—she was actually happy her father was dating again, since he hadn't seen anyone since she was born and her mother died—but it bothered her that he hadn't said a word about it and that she had found out the way she did. She heard the train whistle signaling its imminent departure and closed her eyes, trying to suppress her emotions, before looking back at her father a moment later. "It doesn't matter... I hope you're happy with her. I... I have to go, or the train will leave without me" she said, picking up her suitcase and forcing a smile. "I'll see you over the holidays" she told the three of them, then turned and walked toward the train, still trying to hold back her feelings.
