Jay was not ready for this. She was not ready to see her father for the first time nor would she ever be but who was she to voice her fears aloud?
This holidays is going to be horrible…
She thought bitterly as she walked inside the house, trying to look as indifferent as possible to everything around her. As soon as she stepped towards the interior of the house she noticed a man standing across from her at the other end of the room.
I’d imagine that’s my dad?
She didn’t say anything, she just waited for him to talk instead and he did.
“you know… your mother told me your hair was pink and brown and neat…” he scoffed, looking at her now bleached and roughly cut hair “what is this abomination supposed to be?”
Jay silently thanked her roommate, Skylar for helping her out in making her hair look as rough as possible. Jay really did like it but her father on the other hand seemed to not.
“Style” she said with a smirk, twirling a piece of blonde hair between her fingers and watching as it went a teal colour, contrasting with the darkness of the house she was in. "I'm not interested in being anywhere near you or anyone else in this place" she muttered coldly.
Her father's eyes immediately sharpened and he walked off. Motioning for her to follow and she did. Reluctantly. He led her up a staircase in a thick silance that seemed to never end. Him, refusing to look at her while his daughter glared, as if daring him to look back at her, to acknowledge her existence but, he didn't. He kept walking down a long corridor until they reached a doorway and they abruptly stopped. "You will be staying here" he muttered as the door opened.
Inside it was just a normal bedroom as far as Jay could tell. She pushed her luggage inside and looked around slowly, half in awe half in disgust. She had never seen a bedroom this elegant and big but at the same time she was not liking it at all. "What are the limits to...decorations?" she asked slowly, turning around. "Ah, since it is your room decorate it however you wish but expect thing to be thrown out when it is cleaned" He said in a clipped tone.
Jay rolled her eyes before replying "What if I cleaned it myself? And then you left it locked until the next time I'm here?" Her dad thought about it for a second before nodding. "That should be alright, there is a key in your desk to lock the door when you aren't inside" and with that he walked out and left Jay to unpack.
The room was quite different to what Jay had imagined, the bed was raised but only slightly with a large headboard in the back. There were three parts to the room, the one with the bed was at the end with a window, decorated with different shapes carved out of wood with a bedside table next to it. The second part was thin and had two circular archways separating it from the other two parts. It had writing desk with a jar of pens and pencils and a notebook neatly arranged. Opposite the desk there were bookshelves of Japanese literature and history all written in Japanese. Obviously.
I'll try and learn the language while I'm here...
In the third and final part of the room there was a door leading off to the right with another writing desk next to it and on the other side there was a small couch that looked as old as time. Yeah. Old.
"Well that has to go..." Jay muttered, thinking about how she could remove it without causing a scene but then her brain started to just malfunction with tiredness and she ended up ignoring it for now. She got a start on organizing her room, putting her art supplies in the desk, putting away her clothes, hanging them up, just the basic stuff to try and make it feel even the slightest bit like home.
Key word was try. It didn't work. Even after everything was put in its place. Even after Jay had curled up on the unfamiliar bed with her ferret and tried to imaging she was in her bed in London. She hated it here. She needed to go somewhere else. Anywhere else but she couldn't.
Eventually sleep caught up to both her and her ferret, the jetlag making her eyes heavy as she slowly drifted off into a dream or a nightmare, after all who knew just yet anyways?
