On the Way

Once Haeli was finished getting ready, she stepped out of the bathroom. She must've been in there for at least ten minutes, but it still didn't seem like anyone was awake yet.

So, Haeli walked back to her bed and put all of her things away. She made her bed, then slipped on some socks and shoes. Then, making sure not to wake anyone made her way to the dormitory door, opened it, and slipped out.

As she walked down the stairs into the common room, she noticed that it was empty. The sun shone through the windows above, giving the whole place a magical glow. Haeli had never seen anything like it, so she stopped just to take it all in. She then made her way to the portrait door and went through it.

Once in the corridor, she took a left. Before she got out into the corridor, she wasn't completely sure where she wanted to go, but now she knows. She is making her way to the Owlery.

As she walked there she saw two older Slytherin boys picking on a younger, most likely a first year, Hufflepuff boy. It looked like the same people from the night before. Haeli and her new friends were too afraid to interfere last night, but Haeli knew she had to now. She needed to help.

She walked over. "Hey! What's your problem?" Haeli asked as she unintentionally furrowed her eyebrows. She was waiting for an answer.

The older Slytherin boys stopped poking the poor first year in his side, to look at Haeli. "Oooo, A brave Gryffindor, huh?" they cooed, then they laughed. Haeli's confidence was starting to slip, but her anger was growing.

"What's your problem? Why aren't you picking on someone your own size? And a Hufflepuff, really? What about a Gryffindor, or are they too brave for you? To much to handle?" She wasn't sure where all of those words came from, but she was regretting them. Haeli wasn't looking for a fight, but she hated seeing others get picked on, she knew how that felt, it wasn't a good feeling.

Just as the Slytherin boys were making their way towards Haeli, laughing, a professor came around the corner. Haeli wasn't familiar with this professor, but the older boys were. One of them whispered through gritted teeth, "Oh, you got lucky." Then they both greeted the professor with a smile and a head nod, before running off in the opposite direction.

The professor stopped to ask if everything was ok, and looking at the poor Hufflepuff boy, Haeli said yes, that everything was ok. Once the professor walked away, Haeli started to ask the boy a question, but he said "Thanks," then scurried off like he was late for something.

Haeli was happy that she could help, but hoped that she didn't make anything worse in the long run. Despite what just happened, she continued on for the Owlery.
