xxxxxHowever, a few months later, her father's letters and visits stopped completely. Although her mother tried to prepare her to accept that he might not return, Bryndís continued writing to him for years, convinced that the letters simply weren't reaching their destination. Eventually, she stopped expecting a reply, but she never stopped writing to him during important moments in her life.
xxxxxIn the face of his absence, she found solace in two of the few things that connected her to him: nature and insects. She spent hours observing them, drawing them, researching them, and returning them to their habitat. She also accompanied her mother to the medical center where she worked, helping as a translator when she could and becoming fascinated by the healing magic she practiced.
xxxxxAlthough she sometimes feels nostalgic for the family she never truly knew, she has learned to value life with her mother. She no longer expects her father to return; she simply accepts that if he had truly wanted to be a part of her life, he would never have disappeared.
