| == | "Why does it always, always have to be me!?", a young Violette shouted, seemingly to no one. At the young age of eight, the young girl already had more worries than the average 20-year old. Or so she told herself. The blonde seer was walking in a field close to her childhood home in Nice, a place where a girl this young probably shouldn't be walking around by herself. The field was grassy and uneven, little flowers sticking out all over. This place always calmed her: her parents used to take her there every weekend. How things have changed. "This is so unfair!", the girl shouted again, definitely to no one. She was all alone. A feeling she had learned to embrace. Another cry followed, accompanied by a kick movement. The air hadn't done anything to her, yet, it seemed to be her foot's target. "How could they do this to me", she sobbed. In one second, her anger turned into something else. The girl bent her knees before surrounding them with her arms and crouching down into a little ball. "How..", she attempted to continue, but her raspy voice and the constricted feeling in her chest teamed up to silence her once more. Violette continued sobbing, moving from her body from a ball-shape to one lying on the ground, flat, face-down. With both her hands, she grasped the long grass firmly before kicking her feet onto the ground multiple times. As the blubbering continued, the young seer started to organize her thoughts. There had to be something she missed. The day started as any other Saturday. Violette rose with the sun, which around this time of the month meant she was the first of her household to awaken. Her morning routine was simple. She grabbed a snack, put on some running clothes, tied up her hair, and went for a run. Ever since the girl learned to cook for herself, she started becoming more conscious about her health. She couldn't run far yet, about two kilometers, but she noticed her weight dropping. Violette returned from her run all sweaty. That was when the first scene started. As she entered the house in which she lived, the first thing she heard was crying. By now though, her brain had learned to filter out her sister's wailing. Not everybody seemed to share this superpower. As Violette entered the living room, she noticed her mother sitting on the sofa with her little sister, consoling her. The young seer rolled her eyes upon the sight and glared at the two-year old hugging her mother. Her sister wasn't a baby anymore. She should stop behaving as such. As always, the two-year old took the sight of Violette as a sign to continue. At that point, her ears were ringing, and she stormed up the stairs to go toward the sisters' shared bedroom. Violette didn't have time for this. She grabbed fresh clothes, hopped under the shower, and started getting ready. Her clothes consisted of a cute little uniform her friend's parents magic-ed for her. She wore a pastel orange colored polo shirt, together with white shorts which fell to just above her knees. This was paired with off-brand white sneakers and a simple gold-colored ankle bracelet. After she got dressed, it was time for hair and make-up. The girl opted for two little braids on either side of her face, which both were held up by tiny claw clips. She put on a little mascara and some lip-gloss and she was ready to go. The girl tried to walk past her mother without being noticed, but to no avail. "Where do you think you're going?", her mother asked as she noticed Violette trying to sneak out. "Out." was her only response. Simple yet effective. At this point, Violette was a girl with a mission. After a fifteen minute walk, a clear destination in mind, she made it to a lemonade stand. Her friend was already there. "Hi, Lauren!", the blonde girl greeted, attempting not to seem too eager. "You haven't started without me, have you?" The two girls had made plans to sell lemonade on this hot, summer day. Lauren's parents seemed to love the idea. They were the ones who magic-ed the two girls their 'uniforms' and a lemonade stand. All the girls had to do was make and sell lemonade. Unsurprisingly, it was a hit with most people passing by. Before the end of the day, the two girls had a total of 50 euros cash in their money jar. Violette couldn't help herself. Lauren was well off, and while she thought Violette was too, she really wasn't. She probably wouldn't notice some missing cash. While Lauren was handing a customer a cup with lemonade, the blonde seer sneaked some cash into her pocket. Not too much, but enough. Lauren, looking back at Violette after another successful sale, put the new earnings into the jar. However, then an expression crept up her face, one the young seer couldn't even decipher. "Don't you think I'm earning more than you?", Lauren asked in perfect French. "No?", Violette questioned. The two were both working hard to sell their lemonade. The blonde's face was shiny from the sweat. And Lauren dared to question her? That's when Lauren said something which shocked even Violette. "You're ugly and fat. No way our customers are here for you." Violette's face turned into one of surprise. "What are you talking about? If someone's ugly and fat, it's you!" Before the girl could blink, Lauren was on her. She felt her hair being pulled and shouted. "Stop this! You're being ridiculous! Ugly!" The fight went on until both girls got tired. Violette took a quick glance at the jar. "Look what you did! It's all empty!" Lauren walked up to the jar and turned it upside down. Nothing came out. "Huh.. Someone must have taken it when we weren't looking." The young seer could feel her entire body tingling with anger. "But we've worked so hard.." In all honesty, Violette didn't even care about her wasted afternoon. All she cared about was that her lip-gloss was running out. And she needed a new one. The girl heard a soft noise coming from Lauren's direction. "Did you say something?", Violette asked sharply. "I'm sorry.." Lauren admitted. The young seer knew that Lauren would never understand the grave situation she put her in. Still, she concealed her anger. She couldn't afford to lose her most valuable friend. "It's fine.. let's just go home." Lauren nodded, before getting her parents to unmagic the lemonade stand. "Goodbye Lauren!", Violette said with a wave, before walking into the direction of the field. Once knew for sure the coast was clear, she started running. Tears started flowing. She freaked out. And here she was now. Finally able to think clearly, Violette took a deep breath before pushing them into a 'later' compartment. There was no use having a meltdown about it now. She released her hold on the grass, surprisingly keeping everything intact, before getting up and wiping her tears. It was time to face reality again. | == |
