Kings Cross Station was bustling with life on September 1st, as Minyu was about to begin her departure. She and her parents had finally found the dreaded platform and were still standing a bit away so as not to make too much of a show.
“I’m not sure you guys can go with me any further…” Minyu said and glanced worriedly towards the platform.
“I don’t think I would be brave enough for that either, my dear!” Her mum exclaimed, following a small jab from her father.
“Elaine, for God's sake! If you can’t even do it, how do you expect your eleven-year-old CHILD to do it all by herself?!” Her dad yelled out. Minyu looked back and forth between her parents. She couldn't believe they were arguing at a place like this. Besides, she was actually excited to go to Hogwarts. She definitely didn't want them ruining her mood now.
"Honey, I'm sure she'll be fine! It's just a little much, that's all... And we don't even get to follow her the whole way? I mean - That man sure was convincing, it's just... Are we ABSOLUTELY SURE this isn't some kind of elaborate scam?" Her mother crossed her arms and looked around worriedly. Minyu could tell she was stressed.
"Mum - I'll be fine. I promise. I want to go. I'll write to you as soon as I get there! And I'll come back for the holidays!" Minyu said loudly and looked at her mother pleadingly. Her father nodded in agreement.
"Our Minnie's a big girl now! I know you'll do great, honey." He said proudly and pulled her into a big hug.
Minyu loved her father's hugs. They could instantly cure any type of sadness or worry. That was one of the things she'd miss the most. Looking at him now, she almost felt teary-eyed. Her face felt hot, and she was worried she was going to cry.
"Oh, my baby! Please be safe - and DON'T get on any of those brooms! Those things DO NOT look safe!" Her mother cried out and hugged her so tight that Minyu almost lost all feeling in her upper body. Minyu couldn't help but let out a small giggle. She would miss her mother's over-protectiveness as well. Even though it was admittedly a little much.
Minyu pulled back and looked at her parents one last time.
"Well... I think this is it. The train leaves in 15 minutes. Goodbye, you guys! I'll miss you so much!" She said, staring at both of their faces. Her father had a warm smile, and although her mother tried to smile as well, she could see her holding back tears.
"Goodbye, darling! I know you'll do us proud." Her father said, motioning for her to leave. It's not like he was trying to rush her - he just knew dragging it out would make the goodbye even more painful.
Minyu turned around, grabbed her cart, and headed towards platform 9 3/4
"Get good grades!" Her father yelled out from behind her. "Whatever that means..." He mumbled.
✿✿✿
Standing in front of the platform, she grabbed tightly onto her cart. She took one last big breath and ran as hard as she could towards the large stone wall. She shut her eyes tightly and tried not to think of how painful colliding with the wall would be.
To her amazement, she ran right through it, like nothing was ever there.
She opened up her eyes and couldn't help but stare in wonder. So it was real... Not that she had doubted it, but it all seemed so... Crazy. Now she was really here, standing in front of the train. She looked behind her, on the big stone column she had just come out of, and sent one last thought to her parents. She was ready.
