Iguana vs. Armadillo
This event is part of the Castelobruxo International Capture the Flag event
26TH OF JUNE, 2026 IN THE JUNGLE ARENA
After breakfast on the twenty-sixth of June, excited Castelobruxo students and their visitors gathered by the Jungle arena. The guests displayed a varied compote of nerves: some were excited, some would boast about their prospects of winning, while others, who had heard about the potentially dangerous terrain, would wish that they had never signed up. Nevertheless, it was too late to back out now, as Headmaster Santiago paved the way through green overgrowth that got progressively thicker the further they ventured from the school grounds, for the first teams to claim their bases and hide their flags. Since South America was experiencing its calendar winter, their guests would find the outside temperature pleasant. Meanwhile, the Castelobruxo students and islanders were used to considerably warmer weather.
Reaching the thickest part of the rainforest you could get without taking a trip to the nearby jungle village, they came to a halt. Santiago lifted his head and squinted towards the overhead canopy. The sky was clear. For now. The people accustomed to living in these conditions knew that the rainforest had a tendency to be unpredictable. Rain might begin to fall without warning, but for now, they seemed to have a dry game day ahead of them. After taking a glance around the groups, he thought it was for the best; it would have been a shame to scare them away before the games had begun.
The teams had been named after different Amazonian animals, which the groups were more or less satisfied with. Predictably, Santiago didn't care if they were satisfied about their assigned animal or not.
Before he sent the teams off in the opposite directions, he clarified some of the rules, hands resting on his hips in a casual stance. “This is it, Iguanas and Armadillos." Glancing over the first to thirds years, he couldn't help but smirk. "Once you’re in there, you’re on your own. If you see something that looks dangerous, my advice is to not stick around long enough to find out. Me and the judges will keep eyes on the bases.”
“What about fouls?” A student asked, to which Santi only shrugged with an indifferent expression.
“That’s up to the rainforests’ discretion.” A twinkle of mischief briefly broke through his otherwise stoic expression as he added, “Remember, there are eyes everywhere.” Not just human eyes.
Uncertain glances were shared by some of the students, causing the more experienced players to chuckle lightly. Even the Headmaster’s lips tugged into an amused smirk, having seen this happen many times before; each instance was just as interesting as the last. It never got old.
“Well, what are we waiting for? To base!” He clapped his hands, sending them off.

HOW TO PLAY
The game ends when either team successfully retrieved the other teams flag to their base. Team Iguana will be starting the game in Zone 1 and Team Armadillo will be in Zone 4 at the opposite end of the arena. There will be at most 10 rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.
During the first round only, each team must state which zone their flag is hidden in to the thread moderator. You may chose to hide the flag in any of the 4 zones. The flag remains in that zone unless successfully discovered or moved through gameplay mechanics. Do not reveal in game where the flag is located.
Each round, everyone in the team must make at least one action from the Capture the Flag actions list, unless they are unable to act due to a status effect or restriction. These actions are zone dependent. The team scores points by making successful flag actions or interceptive actions towards a flag carrier. Please note that players may only move between adjacent zones and cannot skip zones while travelling.
At the conclusion of each round, the zone state map will be updated to reflect all player locations. Players may only target characters who are in the same zone as them at the end of the previous round. If a target moves out of the zone during the following movement phase, the action automatically fails, with the exception of Flag Intercept and non-magical support actions that include a chase mechanic. When performing these actions, the player automatically follows the target into the destination zone as part of the interaction.
If the action fails while chasing, the pursuing player is left behind in the original zone while the target successfully gains distance.
Rules regarding roll resolution, action priority, and other game mechanics can be found HERE.
At least one member of the team must owl the entire teams' action list to @Meiyu Xiang before the posting deadline.

Zephyr couldn't fully enjoy their breakfast, his nervousness was messing with his appetite but he forced himself to eat just enough to give him strength for what they're about to do that day. It's the Capture the Flag event, the main reason why they travelled to Castelobruxo in the first place.
After eating, they were asked to gather by the Jungle Arena to explain the mechanics of the game and to give their assigned team names. The headmaster said a few words and the one that struck him the most was: 'Once you’re in there, you’re on your own.' It almost gave him the same feeling of the disaster that they'd face at Tenusa except for this one, it was a formal competition and not something they have to fight with their lives.
He didn’t speak much during the initial briefing though some of the rules were a bit confusing to him. He would rather watch first and speak later. The team name assigned to them was TEAM IGUANA and their base would be Zone 1. "We should decide where to hide our flag...” He moved closer to his group to get everyone's agreement where to hide their flag. They cannot just pick something random, they have to be smart about it. They should all be on the same page before they go in. Once they're inside that jungle, he doesn't think they'll have much time to second guess anything.
Agreement was made and once given the go signal to move to their bases, Zephyr simply followed his group.

After a breakfast Rose barely ate her group and her were now on their way to the Jungle where the game Capture The Flag would take place.
It wasn't Rose's first time to travel to another school territory and this time it was much further than the other ones she has been to and totally new to her. Atmosphere, weather, nature everything was rather unfamiliar but she was curious and wanted to discover more about it. At least being in the jungle would allow her to fully get familiar with the flora and fauna of the region. Nevertheless behind her acute curiosity was a growing nervousness and she was feeling like throwing up.
With her team she now finding herself at the edge of the jungle ready to go but not before some encouraging words from the Headmaster of Castelobruxo. At his words Rose's face slightly tensed as an awkward smile appeared on her face. She was not particularly scared but more anxious of what would happen and how the game would turn out.
As they entered the jungle Rose's ears and eyes were on alert listening to every sounds and looking everywhere around her. The atmosphere of the jungle was almost hurting her head as she was sensing every -or almost- presence of the creatures here. The jungle with its vegetation all around her was reminding her -not so a good memory- of Tenusa when their lives were actually at risk. Thankfully for that one it was totally different. Although both of the Headmaster Tenusa and Castelobruxo used quite the same words and urged to caution. Rose should not let past traumas -if that may be named after it- taking over her. Everything will be fine.
Moreover their team name was Iguana. As far as she knows it was not much of a weak animal and pretty smart so it may give them luck. The zone they were, Zone 1, was surrounding with fog and a lot of plants. The fog could be a nice ally since it would be a natural defender.
But for now her team and her had to hide their flag before the capture starts.

Capturing flags seemed easy enough, at least Harumi hoped so, all they need to do is find the flag and then get it back to their base, right?
----"Tell me again, why are we iguanas?! Iguanas? Really!" She complained. Her plan to name the team something girly had fell apart, the moment she heared they were assigned the name Iguanas, who decided on the name, she didn't know, but they are her enemy until this game ends. At least if they lose, she can say the name is the reason, how is it the reason? It's just the reason, no need for further clarification.
----She listened to Zephyr and Skylar dicussing where to hide the flag. "Let's just bury it under ground, no one is going to dig the whole forest to find a flag." She proposed, not that she thought it was allowed, but then again they said to hide it in the forest, never said where in the forest, so they can get as creative as they want. "or on a tree, or under a rock, they never said it needs to be set-up." She added some more totally useless ideas.
----Harumi abandoned the thoughts about flags and looked around the forest curiously. "Do you think we could find some rare potions' ingredients here?" She wondered mischievously. "Never mind, there's probably a rule against taking them." She sighed, if there isn't a rule it would be awesome, but rules exist for a reason, and if there isn't one, they should probably consider adding one.
----She looked around at the plants and place in general, she wondered if there's anything dangerous out there. "Okay, guys. Remember to survive, run for your life even if we lose. I really don't want to become the only survivor, neither do you." She warned. "Most importantly, enjoy yourselves!" She concluded.

Veda was sick of worrying. First, she worried about attending Hogwarts. Then, she worried about everything during her first year, which led her to hollow in on herself and not make many friends. She opened up a bit more in her second year, but when her mom pushed her to sign up for capture the flag, you guessed it, she worried. Veda continued worrying all the way up to last night, where after the feast she promptly made herself stop thinking and go to sleep.
As Veda woke up, she got dressed, refusing to linger on if her outfit was fit for the upcoming event, and she did all her morning routine. Her routine always helped calm her down because it brought some sense of routine back into her already pretty plain life.
She quickly headed away from her dorm, grabbing a few snacks that she brought for the short trip to the field. Veda had purposely missed breakfast so she didn’t have to talk about the game more than necessary. She arrived, maybe a bit too early, to the field, and only then did she take a breath.
Thankfully, before she went back into full panic mode, she heard footsteps and saw her teammates approaching. Before Veda could make a fool out of herself and say something dumb, the headmaster started talking. Veda paid careful attention to every word the man said, which was a bit of a mistake because now she felt even more on edge.
At Zephyr’s words, Veda nodded. Yes, that was the first step, wasn’t it? Hide the flag, simple enough. The two girls, Skylar and… Haru? chimed in, and Veda stood next to Rose, a girl who didn’t say anything as well. Veda frowned at Haru’s words, confused. If they dug a hole or hid their flag in a tree, wouldn’t they be disqualified? ”I uh, maybe we shouldn’t do that? I mean, we traveled all this way to play the game...” the hufflepuff trailed off, ears red. "She was making a joke!" Veda miserably thought to herself, even though she was right. Veda didn’t step this far out of her comfort zone to be accused of cheating before the game even really started!
As her team quickly started to hide their flag, she followed, silently pondering her life’s decisions.

The team’s strategising and friendly banter had done little to settle the quiet knot of nerves in the pit of Cirrus' stomach.
She wasn't particularly worried about losing, this was a one time event that hopefully she’d never have to do ever again and no one will remember her face to connect any embarrassing memories with. She was mostly unsettled by how unfamiliar everything around her was. The rainforest seemed alive, magical, as it breathed, dense with strange chirps from exotic animals she couldn’t put names to and rustling leaves that gave her a reason to jump at every twist and bend. It was a far cry from the grounds of Hogwarts, where she had at least learned what sounds belonged and which didn't.
As discussions about the flag and team strategy unfolded, Cirrus listened more than she spoke. In fact, she didn’t utter a word (probably worried she’d say another strange thing about alpacas like she did at the feast). The others to her seemed far more comfortable piecing together a solid strategy, and she was content to observe and listen, more than happy to go along with whatever plan they devised. She had no idea how to adequately prepare for this event, so she thought it best for the more physically capable members of the group figure out how to best utilise her skill set.
For now, Cirrus was content to observe their surroundings, taking note of landmarks or unique plants in the greenery. If they needed to retreat in a hurry later, recognising the terrain might prove just as valuable as remembering routes on a map.
Once the plan had been settled, and she’d been assigned her role, Cirrus only offered the team a small nod and set out to do what was asked of her.
With a singular mission in mind, Cirrus ventured deeper beneath the canopy, growing more cautious with each passing second. She found herself studying the undergrowth as much as the path ahead, noticing bent ferns, exposed crooked roots and patches of undisturbed moss. It wasn't suspicion that guided her so much as habit. Like how she gets that odd feeling like she’s being watched, even when she knows that she doesn’t particularly stand out enough at Hogwarts to have eyes on her. At least, she hopes not. Even less so in a foreign country’s wilderness. Perhaps she expects a pair of eyes to be peaking out from between tree leaves and stalking her journey.
For now, all Cirrus could do was progress forward, committing every detail of the forestry to memory and hope tha it would in some ways prove useful before the day was over. That, or she makes an utter fool of herself for being adventurous and forcing herself out of her comfort zone. Again.

| ————— | Julia felt like an idiot. Her job for the previous round had been important, but somehow her body just didn't want to comply. Mercifully, her bones came to their senses and moved just as an anaconda attacked zone 2. She, @cirrus mooney, and @veda lunar managed to escape it, but unfortunately, @Skylar Astor got unlucky. She was attacked, or rather engulfed by anacondas, and, by the looks of it, was likely immobilized for a round. Julia's eyes did a quick sweep of their zone, Zone 2, and was relieved to find that Skylar had been successful in laying her trap. Julia looked back to see to see how @harumi everdane was getting on with her trap in Zone 1. The first thing that caught her eye was monkeys attacking, but Harumi had an easy dodge. She finished laying her trap, and that was when she heard a shout from cirrus next to her. She'd been actively trying to spot the flag in their zone and the Hufflepuff had finally succeeded. Adrenaline flooded Julia's veins. This seemed almost too easy. In the next round, Cirrus could grab the flag and they could win. The rest of their group, @Zephyr Deakin, @Rose Pearce, and @Laasya Manjunath, made their way through the jungle and were then forced to face a (in Julia's opinion) rather harsh heatwave. While rose and laasya seemed unaffected, Zephyr was a little hurt. He wasn't immobilized, but would probably find doing... anything harder. On the upside, the other team hadn't moved at all and seemed very zoned out. It seemed this would be easier than she had earlier anticipated | ————— |
