╰┈ Appearance

Alaric Evander Morvain, a boy with a slender, gentle face that takes after his mother’s features. He has pale skin and curly eyelashes. His jet-black hair is styled in a layered wolf-cut that reaches the nape of his neck, with bangs that fall over his eyes. He has a slender build —but not skinny or unkempt— and stands 147 cm tall. His fingers are long and neat; his mother always says he’d be perfect for playing the piano. His calm demeanor often deceives people into thinking that inside his small brain lie all sorts of extraordinary… mischievous ideas.

╰┈ Backstory

Alaric comes from a family of wizards; his pure-blood father married his half-blood mother. Their family is like any other. While his father came from a long line of pure-blood wizards, Eleana believed there was always something worth learning from both the magical and Muggle worlds. She wanted Alaric to understand both sides of his heritage, and Evander never saw any reason to object. He would simply laugh and follow along whenever she decided it was time for another trip into the Muggle world. Because of her, Alaric grew up equally familiar with both sides of his heritage. Things such as trains, telephones, and busy Muggle streets never felt particularly unusual to him, even though magic was always the world he called home.
Living close to his extended family, however, meant Alaric constantly had to test the limits of his patience. Behind his calm demeanor lay a rather mischievous mind, but his cousins loved nothing more than trying to provoke him. He was often teased by his cousins because of his feminine appearance; his long hair only added fuel to the mockery. He was frequently called a “pretty-boy” as a joke. Alaric tried not to take their remarks seriously, although at times their comments truly crossed the line of his patience.

On his eleventh birthday, an owl arrived bearing a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Alaric wasn’t surprised; he’d been expecting the letter ever since his first magical moment. He’d asked his mum and dad all sorts of questions about the school, and his cousin had been endlessly debating which house was the best and where Alaric should be sorted. Alaric read the letter over and over again, constantly imagining himself holding his first magic wand, riding a broomstick and competing in a Quidditch match.
For the first time, Hogwarts, which until then had only existed in stories, felt so real and no longer so far away.

╰┈ First Instance of Magic

When he was 8 y.o, during a family dinner with the entire Morvain family, Alaric was with his cousins. He was used to hearing comments like “pretty little girl,” but that night they had other plans. His cousins made some pink satin ribbons and pinned them to Alaric’s hair. He tried to brush them off repeatedly, but he wasn’t strong enough to fight them off on his own. He grew annoyed when the adults joined in the laughter, even though there was no mockery intended. However, there was no sign that his cousins would stop; he grew increasingly annoyed and embarrassed, until—without him realizing it—the ribbons in his hair flew off on their own like butterflies. They multiplied rapidly and swarmed toward his cousins. Alaric had no idea what was happening; he was stunned to see more and more of his ribbons appearing. In shock, he stepped away from the chaos and watched the scene in disbelief. The adults also seemed taken by surprise, but they quickly cast a spell to make the ribbons vanish. When asked who had cast the spell, everyone shook their heads —none of them had done it actually. Alaric was still standing a little way off from them, his face still frozen in astonishment. Now everyone was staring at him; even though he was stunned, he felt satisfied that his cousins had stopped bothering him (and gotten their comeuppance). He heard someone clap their hands, “BRAVO!” It was his father. His father explained that perhaps that had been Alaric’s magic. Alaric stared at his palms; he felt like he hadn’t done anything, but he’d been told that a person’s magic would manifest unintentionally at a certain age. He wasn’t sure if what had just happened was because he’d been upset or if it was just a coincidence. Still feeling confused, his father had already led him to a seat, saying that he could become a great wizard.
After that incident, Alaric was no longer sure if he had actually cast the spell himself. But one thing he realized was that every time he got really upset, something always “happened.” At first he thought it was strange, until eventually he stopped overthinking it. After all, if the magic appeared to help him get back at the people who bothered him… maybe it wasn’t so bad.
