It was with his luggage in tow that Cassiel boarded the Hogwarts Express. A quick Levitation Charm had his sizable baggage floating behind him. Despite the fact that he didn't have to carry them, Cassiel moved awkwardly about the train, his constant need to look over his shoulder to check if his bags stunting his typically long-strided gait.

As he walked, he recalled the first time he boarded this train. He'd been a ball of nerves then, too worried about the sorting ceremony to allow himself a moment of childlike wonder and excitement. He's always been that way, though—far too serious for a child. His mother insisted he'd been born a sullen little baby, with a wrinkled brow and a deep frown.

Coincidentally, it was the expression he currently wore as he navigated through the narrow corridor of the compartment coach. He moved along, peering briefly through each window's to see if they were empty. Most were not, and Cassiel kept moving until he reached the end of the carriage and stood at the last compartment.

Despite his dour expression, he was in higher spirits than usual. He has always found something peaceful about trains. The gentle rocking of their carriages as they moved, the ambient chugging noise they made as they rolled on. Worthy of note, however, was that Cassiel's good opinion of trains was certainly helped by the fact that he'd had only ever ridden in trains with private compartments. Though Cassiel wasn't an entirely solitary creature by nature, he did hold things like privacy and quiet in high esteem.

So when spied a solitary figure inside the last compartment and realised that he wouldn't have his own train compartment to himself, he was less than pleased. But Cassiel, unwilling, to walk with his luggage drifting behind him, decided to settle. He opened the door and took a seat across from the girl inside, not bothering to look her way until he was sure his luggage was secure in the overheard rack. It was with a fairly dismal expression that he turned to face the compartment's only other occupant. The girl only looked vaguely familiar to him. A Hufflepuff, he believed.

"Sorry to barge in," he said, his tone flat, not sounding apologetic in the least bit. "All the other compartments were full."

Wardrobes empty, trunks packed, notes were handed out to all students, warning them not to use magic during the holidays. The caretaker was there to take the first years to the fleet of boats that sailed across the lake.

Her trunk was lighter than most, though not because it carried less. She folded her clothes and stacked her books neatly and made sure to use every inch of space. She learned efficiency from years of living without magic. Carrying it down the narrow hallway of the train was quite difficult however.

Denisse had quite the journey with only spending 1 year at a school full of young witches and wizards like herself. She met lots of lovely girls and made her time in that millennium-old castle worthwhile from meeting new friends, going stargazing, starting a prank war in the library and discovering her profound talents in Quidditch.

Despite the new friends she made, all the compartments in the train seemed to be full and her friends have made no space for her to sit. She kept walking along the corridor until she found an empty compartment. Katya curled up beside her like a silver shadow and blinked her striking blue eyes in contentment. The cat’s fur shimmered faintly in the light. The only noise in that room being the steady purr. It seems she’ll start and end her Hogwarts journey sitting alone in the compartment with her fluffy companion. Not that she minds. She doesn’t mind sharing a compartment with friends or having the entire compartment to herself. That is until the door slid open and a young boy entered the compartment as if he owned it. He effortlessly made his trunk float behind him. His expression was sharp, almost disdainful, as if the world itself had offended him. She vaguely recognized this Gryffindor. He just stored his suitcase then finally made eye contact with her.

“Sorry to barge in,” he said flatly, definitely not sorry at all.

Who does he think he is? she thought. She turned back to the window as if he never entered the compartment.
