𝔖ummer at Hogwarts was an experience that could beat out any other summer Emma had previously. The trees and foliage surrounding the castle were in full bloom, and the grounds smelled lovely, like fresh grass and flowers.

So, of course, to seize the beautiful day, (especially now that they were finished with exams) Emma and Lena had planned a picnic!
With a quilt from her dorm in hand, Emma went down to the kitchens right after classes were over to get some food from the house elves, who kindly aided her quest for snacks.
She was due to meet her best friend at 16:00 by the Great Lake, as they had separate last classes together, and Emma had already planned to set everything up. And of course, in typical fashion, she had to make sure everything was perfect.
For some reason that Emma couldn’t quite put a finger on, she needed Lena to be happy with how much effort she put in setting everything up. It felt very important to her in a way she had never felt for anyone before.
She figured maybe it was just the fact that Lena was one of her closest friends.
Yeah, that made sense.
So she took great care in setting up the quilt under the biggest, prettiest tree with lots of shade, smoothing it well. She also made sure the food basket was set up nicely, and set up plates from the kitchens donning both Lena and Emma’s favorite snacks (that they had previously made frequent late night trips to the kitchens to steal), and flourished it with a protective charm to halt the wind.
All she needed to do now was wait for her friend to arrive.

Lena had always loved the summer. It was always her favorite season, maybe it was seeing all the flowers, or maybe it was the warm weather. She was never sure, but she loved spending every moment outside. She was taking her time walking to the great lake, not on purpose, however she loved the scenery. She hadn't even noticed the time. Whenever she realized the time, she ran to the lake. She wasn't far from the edge of the lake, and she wasn't much late, however she still felt bad.
"I'm so sorry to keep you waiting!" She was panting as she arrived, looking around at everything. The quilt, the basket, how there was both of their favorite foods. She took everything in. A smiled formed on her face, nobody had ever put that much effort into her before. She wasn't sure what it was, but something about it made her heart happy. "Everything looks so beautiful! Thank you, Emma!"
Lena only had one other friend that she was this close with, that knew her like the back of their hand, however she hadn't seen her since she had been here. Something was different about Emma, whenever Lena was around Emma, she couldn't but smile. Emma was probably the only person Lena didn't get annoyed at, no matter how much time they spent together.
Lena sat across from Emma on the quilt. "I've never been on a picnic before! Have you?" She said excitedly. Being around Emma more, has definitely made her a bit more talkative, but really only towards her. It really seemed like Emma was the only person Lena tolerated for more than a short amount of time.
