Twasn't Here Yesterday!!

FINALLY!!

Double potions was done and dusted! Colin had to admit it. AngelFyre was right. It still didn't quite feel right to admit it, but he wasn't a complete loser when it came to potions. Their win at last year's Potions Championship had done anything but go to the boy's head. Now towards the end of fifth year, Colin was actually beginning to think that he didn't completely suck. Even Liam seemed to have gotten off his case a little. Today's practical had gone well, and Colin was actually looking forward to his upcoming potions OWL!

Colin charged up all five hundred forty-three thousand eight hundred and sixty one steps that led up from the dungeons to the fifth floor for some fun in transfiguration. Somehow he'd managed to lost Liam in the crowd. That was too bad, really. He'd caught sight of Silas and thought what a wonderful idea it would be to play some hallway hurling with the first year! Colin smirked. He was actually pretty proud of the younger boys. Silas, Archer, Lotus, and the rest. They'd all managed not to die, be eaten by giant spiders, or get sucked into the very walls of the castle!

Oh well! They could play a game another day! At last Colin made the now familiar left turn out of the stair well, grasping the edge of the ancient stonework with his fingers and ---

KA-THUNNKK!!!

"OWW!" Colin's knee and forehead smacked into hard stone! His momentum flung his body right into a wall and the recoil sent him sprawling onto the floor! "What the haitchy trouble soccer sticks?" Colin cried out, trying out one of AngelFyre's many inventive invectives that only a Muggleborn could possibly track of!

And he wasn't alone either! Most of the kids passed them by, making the right turn down the other corridor. A few, however, were looking around in some confusion. Fifth years. Fellow transfiguration students who had been caught off guard by the sudden rearrangement of the castle! Colin found Liam, his legs stretched out, leaning against the far wall, notebook out and pencil skritching across the page. Colin hopped up and limped over to his brother.

"I see ye tried the high speed cornering maneuver, Cail!" Liam greeted him with a smile.

"Aye. Didn't work out so well. What's with the wall anyway? Twasn't here yesterday?" Colin's expression shifted from bewildered to shocked. "Or was it? It ---"

"Hmm. That's a good question, Cail. Mind you, we didn't have trafiggy yesterday!"

"Y-Yeah. That's right! Tuesday then!" Colin replied.

"Good! We did have transfiggy on Tuesday, Cail! Ye remembered!" teased Liam.

"I- LIAM MCCOIRE! This is serious!"

Liam jabbed Colin's ribs.

Colin jabbed Liam's ribs.

"Aye, ye're right, lad!" Liam continued, stifling a slight laugh. "The wall wasn't there on Tuesday!"

"But---!"

"And it is here today."

"But---!"

"Which could pose a slight problem for us!"

"But! LIAM!" Colin pointed excitedly at the stone wall. "Our classroom is there!" His hands flailed. "There! Some. Er. Somewhere there?"

"That's an interesting observation, Cail, given that what is clearly there is, in fact, a stone wall!"

"Liam! We'll be late for class! And you know how Professor ---"

"Ah, yes, a mystery we need to solve, eh Cail?" Liam tucked his notebook back into his satchel and stood up, dragging Colin with him. "Might want to fix yer knee too, Cail. That scrape looks pretty bad!" Colin looked down at his knee. It was indeed pretty scraped up. "So! What do we know?"

Colin looked around to see if anyone else had any ideas. Some of the kids had already wandered away. Others perhaps thought that Professor Wattana would appear and sort things out. "Hmm," Colin thought. This was a mystery they needed to sort out!
