Evangeline had finally received her letter! The one both her parents and her had been waiting on for so long. She couldn't have been more excited! But something in her was also very, very sad. She had realised that when she would leave for school, she wouldn't be able to tend her garden anymore. All the flowers, herbs and vegetables she had planted, had seen grown into beautiful plants, who bore beautiful fruits. Her mother would have to take them all over, and she already was so busy with work and her own creations.
Her mother hadn't seem too well either lately... she seemed tired, not mentally tired or like sad, but physically tired. She started to oversleep, forget things and it reflected on her garden. The flowers had never looked so messy. Evangeline decided to spend the last few days she had with her mother, solely focussed on them. They tended the garden together, kept little tea parties, went on long walks and even read books together late at night.
Her father had always been a non socialiser, so he was perfectly fine with his two girls spending the rest of summer just with the two of them, but he too noticed the lack of physical energy in his wife, and he too was starting to get worried. He tried to take over some tasks in the household, like cooking now and then or go for groceries, do some laundry. But he too, as many males in a marriage, had no say. His wife would not let him help, not take over a single task because in her eyes, he had already enough on his hands with work and taking care of their daughter.
Since Evangeline would soon be leaving for Hogwarts, her grandmother decided to come over for a visit, to see her granddaughter one last time before she would take of for 9 months to learn all about what it was to be a wizard. When she saw her grandmother, she brought over far too many gifts, candy, and many blessings from her cousin Amethyst, whom also attends Hogwarts, but is 2 years older than her. Her grandmother was so happy to have another small witch in the family to be attending Hogwarts! She gave me specific instructions to also give Amethyst some of the gifts she brought me, since she wouldn't be seeing her anymore before our departure to Hogwarts, and if there was ever anything on my heart, I should go to her straight away.
We had some dinner, watched a movie and spend a lot of time hugging and laughing.
Once her grandparents were out of the door, and Evangeline was laying in bed, staring up at the plants she hung on her bedroom roof, she thought of all the adventures, all the beautiful memories and even better, beautiful plants she would be tending at Hogwarts. The sadness of leaving her family behind for 9 months, disappeared into excitement to start this new adventure!
