Jun stood before the large full body mirror of her room, smoothing over her dress with her hands. It was currently 2 o‘clock in the afternoon and sunlight was streaming in through the commodious windows. Her mother had not taken her to an event or ball, ever since 2023 when they had moved to England. Reina had avoided most work related events until now and any invitations to Balls or Gatherings had been politely denied. The first few months after Saburo‘s passing, there had merely been polite invitations to Tea - then it had turned into requests to attend social events. Jun had watched her Mother deny every single one and she had been grateful for it. The last thing either of them, or their family, would have needed were prying eyes at a point in their lives where everything had shifted into darkness. The type of pureblood gatherings that the Mochizuki‘s had attended regularly in the past had been full of exactly those prying eyes, rumors and gossip on other families, names getting dragged through the dirt behind polite chitchat. One could only imagine what was being talked about after the mysterious incident, that resulted into Saburo Mochizuki‘s death. A mission gone wrong? A jealous Auror colleague? A plotted death marked as an accident? Jun had read enough of it in gossip papers while recovering the injuries ripped and bit into her skin.
However, the young girl also used to enjoy these social gatherings, events and balls. The Mochizuki family had a good reputation in Japan as well as in other parts of the world, due to many connections formed by several of the family members. That reputation still remained, even when there was now an air of secrecy and mystery engulfing the family, like a mist that wouldn’t quite pass. Tonight many perhaps expected to get a sight into that mist, as Reina had accepted an invitation for a work event; one where children and family may be brought along. It wasn’t supposed to be a large event, just a similarity to something like „bring your kid to work day“. The Department of Magical Law Enforcement was where Reina Mochizuki worked as she had previously done similar work back in Japan. This Event was the reason that Jun was currently standing before her mirror, looking at her appearance so self consciously.
The Ravenclaw was by no means a sight that would make someone turn away from her, in fact some might say Jun was quite pretty with her deep brown hair and the almond shaped eyes that sparkled softly with flecks of gold. Though, when one is so schooled to perfection, one might fear that they fail to portray said perfection appropriately. After so long, Jun dreaded what impression she may leave if she let through that this perfect porcelain appearance was actually cracking from inside out; had been ever since claws had dug into her skin and teeth had buried into her flesh. Her shoulder was covered, bite marks were hidden, her ribs still ached faintly at the thought of the scars there but what hurt more was the heart ripped apart underneath her ribcage. Which was exactly what she feared would one day leak through the cracks in the walls she had built around herself.
A small soft knock on her door made Jun flinch slightly. That was the sign she needed to come downstairs. Today she’d get the opportunity to show just how stable the walls are, just how thick and resilient. There wouldn’t be the escape of leaving, like she could at an Event at Hogwarts. There wouldn’t be the opportunity to hide away from prying eyes and fade into the background. This return to social events would mean presenting the perfect Heiress of the Mochizuki name, the girl who owned all that her Father had owned; and Jun would not give anyone the opportunity to think she wasn’t deserving, or ready for this task.

Hands had been shook, brief conversation had been held, first impressions had been made. Jun stood beside her mother with flawless posture, hands folded neatly over one another. She almost looked like a statue, or perhaps a porcelain doll. Even a painting couldn’t have stood as still as Jun currently was. A smile was painted onto her lips, stained with the soft hue of a deep red. One of Reina’s colleagues had just introduced himself and Jun had shook his hand politely and offered some witty words, that had made him laugh and nod. Back in Japan, the etiquette of these events had been different, but in Britain many liked a mix of politeness and personality. Something Jun had learned to differentiate, depending on which country or culture these gatherings took place in and who was in attendance. A smart guest knew who they were surrounding themself with.
When Reina had found one of her colleagues to speak business with, Jun politely excused herself and made her way toward a set up table with drinks. She already felt as though there was a headache beginning to form in her temples, infused by the interactions with so many curious minded souls. It was as though many of them could quite grasp the concept of polite conversation and Jun was no one to enjoy chitchatting with old Men that told her to focus on her studies, especially not in that condescending tone that they tried to hide. Like they were better than everyone else. The Ravenclaw greatly despised individuals like that, they usually had an ego bigger than what fit into their heads and that was quite sad.
Once arrived at the drink station, Jun picked up one of the crystal glasses (though they may have just been charmed to look like that) and looked around. Her shoulders finally relaxed just a tiny bit when she couldn’t find a single person with their eyes on her and the picture perfect smile slipped into a neutral expression. It was almost as though her cheeks hurt at this point and they weren’t even halfway through the event. Who knew who else her mother was going to introduce her to.
