Very First Friend
The Great Hall was buzzing with noise of chattering, plate and utensils clinking, and the occasional whoosh of flying owls. I was on the wooden benches of the Ravenclaw table and focused on the crisp paper of my first-year timetable while eating, trying to root myself in something familiar. I sat on the right long bench of Ravenclaw table, my back was facing the back of Gryffindor students.
The Gryffindor table was right behind mine, and I could hear the commotion from the group of Gryffindor students directly behind me. I started studying my timetable again and pushed my pumpkin juice aside to make sure no soup dripped into it. My head was still spinning from seeing the castle when the person directly behind me on the adjacent bench twisted around to face my table and holding a plate full of sandwiches. She introduced herself as Anne Brown with that excited smile on her face.
I stared at her, taken a little aback by her friendly introduction. Her vibrant, outgoing personality alleviated a bit of my anxiety. I set my timetable down and returned her smile, feeling a little relieved. "I-I’m Maeve" I introduced myself as I look at her in curiosity.

Anne was walking down the Gryffindor table when she saw that there wasn’t a single spot left for her. This seemed strange, but she walked over to the Ravenclaw table without hesitation. Anne was starving, so, she didn’t really care where she sat, as long as she got her food.
As she was nearing, she saw a spot right beside a girl who seemed like her own age. Anne walked up closer to her and decided to introduce herself. “Hello. Mind if I sit here? I’m Anne by the way. Anne Brown.” She said with a smile on her face.
As the girl introduced herself, Anne found her name beautiful. “Nice to meet you Maeve.” She responded. “So, is that your timetable?” Anne said looking at the paper the girl had just set down. “I really hope we don’t get that much homework on the first day. My attention span just can’t deal with hours unending, doing a bunch of studying. What about you? Do you think you will catch up fine?” She continued, trying to start a conversation. She hated it when she failed to do so. So, she didn’t want things to get too awkward on her first day.

Anne asked her if that's her timetable while also looking at her setting the timetable down, Maeve responded "Uh...yea,it's my timetable" She responded in a bit self-consciously as she pulled the timetable closer.
She listened as Anne complained about the idea of having tons of homeworks on the first day and hours of doing bunch of studying, an amused smile tugged at the corner of her lips, still nervous but Anne's talkative vibe makes her wanna listen more. She answered Anne's question "I think I'll catch up fine on that. I don't mind reading a lot but I really hope they ease us up. We can study together in the library if you want when we have free time" She said, looking back at that bright grin of Anne's, offering her a relieved smile "What's your class after lunch time? Maybe we can see if we share classes after this"She offered Anne to see if they have shared classes after lunch

Maeve pulled her timetable closer and offered for them to study together. “Oh, please.” Said Anne. “But, don’t complain if I distract you. I already warned you. I’ve got the attention span of a damn fly.” She said very literally. Anne always had trouble concentrating. She could do it if it was something interesting, but if it was something as boring as school, she would often just start thinking about anything else and forget completely about her homework.
Anne took the timetable that was being offered to her as she grabbed her own out of her pocket. “Oh, yeah.” She said as she was examining it. “We’ve both got Transfiguration. Let’s go together shall we? We might also meet a few people there. I could introduce you to a few, if you want. But anyways. What do you expect we will do there? Change things? I haven’t really heard much about it. People mostly talk about Defence against the dark arts.” Anne imagined all the things that she could do there. Transfiguration sounded something such as changing things. Was that even possible? The magical world kept suprising her even more every time she thought about it and all the possiblities.

Maeve smiled she just could not help it her fingers were doing that tracing along the edge of her timetable. "Don't worry I actually love listening to people talk while I am reading it is like this background noise that keeps me feeling safe." She felt this steady spark in her chest it was kind of growing on its own because Anne was so easy to be around it did not feel like anything had to be forced.
As Anne compared their schedules then suggested they go to Transfiguration together with introductions to students and all that casual talk about changing objects and the whole mysterious Defense Against the Dark Arts thing Maeve felt a nervous feeling. She looked at Anne her voice was softer but a bit more sure than before. "I don't mind meeting a people as long as you are there too" Maeve said to Anne. "I'm not exactly great at making a first impression though" Maeve said in awkward way.
Maeve glanced down at the notes about Transfiguration. "Changing things?I've never heard that before but I think the lesson would be fun things if you're there to make conversations with me too" She let out a laugh tucking a stray hair behind her ear. "If you are there to take attention away from me maybe I will not think about it so much" Maeve said to Anne as she smiled at her.

“Well I hope you actually do. I’d get terribly distracted.” She said in a very litteral way.
“Sure. Maybe you can make a few more friends.” Anne continued.
“So, Maeve, tell me about yourself.” She said changing the subject. “Are you into sports? Any hobbies? I love art when I’m not doing something outside. I love exploring too. I know I can be dumb, but I know a lot of things about living or surviving in the wilderness, however you want to call it. That’s like the only thing I actually enjoy learning about. I mean, I never found any point about actually paying attention to learn about how to find x or something. If you get what I mean. Are you muggle born anyways? I am.” Anne said. What other things could she ask her about? She wanted to get to know her a bit more. That usually helped find topics to talk about.
“So, I take it you like reading? What’s your favourite book? Mine is probably The summer I turned pretty. I think it’s very interesting. Ecxept probably the second book. It’s a bit boring but I still like it, nevertheless.” She said thinking about how Maeve had told her that she didn’t mind reading.

"I don't really know how to make friends because it may be a bit awkward and nervous but you're the first person who approached me first and...introduced yourself in an extrovert way. It's kinda comforting around you"She admitted.
Then Anne asked Maeve to tell her about herself but also tells Maeve about herself, Maeve listened and answers "I'm not actually a person who's into sport but I hope walking and running count as sports though. I do have a hobby, I love reading and a bit of learning something new when it comes to curiosity"She said nervously because all she does was reading "Art? You must be an artist with a good imagination and artistic eyes to draw something out of your imagination, your art must be beautiful too"She admired Anne's love in art. "Exploring is a good thing to find something new. You're not actually dumb, you're a smart person with a good imagination and great curiosity.
