Now THESE are textbooks

____________________________________________________________
Josh, accompanied by his parents and their escorting wizard walked down Diagon Alley which was still as crowded as it was before they went to Ollivanders. The wizard checked his watch again, and spoke in an anxious voice,"It took us half an hour getting a wand, we're on a tight schedule. Alright, here's what we'll do Mr and Mrs Ericson, you two take your son and get his textbooks at that shop over there, Flourish and Blotts." He pointed at a crooked little shop that stood out between it's neighboring stores. It seemed no bigger than Ollivanders, but it looked like it was much better kept."While you do that, I'll go past Potage's and get a cauldron and what-not. Then all that's left to do is get robes at Madam Malkin's, we can meet up there in 10 minutes." He tapped his watch dramatically, and before the three of them could respond, he was rushing away in the opposite direction. Josh looked at his parents, they both looked nervous to enter any shops without the wizard to escort them, so he had to grab his mother by his hand and start tugging her,"C'mon mum, he said in 10 minutes!" His mom sighed as if she was exhausted, and allowed him to lead her into the bookshop, while his father followed closely behind them. The inside of the shop looked bigger than Ollivanders, it had dozens of shelves with thousands of books stacked on top of each other right up to the ceiling. Unlike Ollivanders, the shop was swarmed with other people doing their own shopping, the three of them had to force their way through the pushing and shoving crowd in order to get around. Josh glanced at the textbook list in his mother's hands, there were no maths or english textbooks like the one's that he had in primary school. Instead, the list was full of books with funny titles, that made sense if you looked at them through a wizard's perspective:Date: August11th

"I can help look for them! I can go around the shelves and see where they are. Please can I mum and dad?" "Fine, just don't go wandering out of the shop, and when we call for you come to the checkout fast." He nodded quickly, and pushed through the crowd of people as his parents went to the other side of the shop. As he walked next to the shelves, he looked carefully to see if any of the books were the one's he needed. There were many books that interested him, but none of which he needed, 'Advanced Potion-Making', 'Ancient Runes Made Easy', 'Unfogging the Future'. Josh couldn't deny that he wanted all of these books, to discover all the secrets of magic within them, but he knew that these books were way above his level, and his parents probably wouldn't buy them for him if they weren't on the list. He resisted the temptation as he passed more interesting books, two particular one's really caught his eye.'Dragon Breeding for Pleasure and Profit'."Dragons are real?!" he spoke out loud to himself in an excited and interested voice, and the second book was even more interesting,'The Monster Book of Monsters'. These books were kept in large cages, and they were actually growling, barking, and biting the cage bars. He walked for a few seconds more, reading the titles of each book as he went on, when he heard his mother's voice distinctly among the other shoppers,"Josh! Come on, we're leaving now!" He felt a little disappointed, he hadn't even seen half the books in the shop. He decided to test his luck and take the first books he saw of the shelves; Jinxes for the Jinxed, and Great Wizarding Events of the Twentieth Century. When he arrived at the checkout, his father was busy paying the shopkeeper while his mother was browsing through a copy of 'One Minute Feasts - It's Magic!' looking very interested in it's contents."Mum, dad, please can I get these? They're really useful!" His father stopped counting the sickles in his hand and looked over his shoulder."We've got all your textbooks already, you don't need those." He frowned slightly, and looked at his mother, who spoke as she flipped through a few pages of the book in her hand,"Daniel let him get a few extra books. We should be grateful that he's taking an interest in reading. These magic books are genius." His father just sighed, and took the books from him to pay for them with the others. As they left the shop, his mother seemed much more comfortable being in the alley, walking and glancing into shop windows looking genuinely interested. Josh himself felt as if he were at home amongst the wizards and witches around him. His father however did not feel the same, still looking nervously around as he followed his wife and his son. There was only one last stop for them in Diagon Alley: Madam Malkin's. They would meet up with their escorting wizard (who went off to buy a cauldron, copper scales, and glass phials), get black robes, and then they would leave Diagon Alley until next year when they had to shop for his second year items.
