“ 6:30 PM, August 6. 2025“
The fifth anniversary of the restaurant, Mapleridge, the Dayes always had, would be lended to Angel who is the only heir to the culinary reputation and legacy the family accumulated over time. Was regarded as one of the best and refined tastes of the Dayes family. Still that was not the case for her, as witty as she was, taste in arts was subjective to her. Her parents had high regards and hopes but still not overbearing. One of the first of the Dayes to attend Hogwarts too. With all that it seemed like she had many things to look forward too. Consequently, being as social as she was, nervous on who will attend. Being in such a fine event as this one seeing so many people talking about her and the family caught her off guard. Understanding what others meant on how her family was well versed in the culinary industry, she was oblivious to that fact until now.
Many families that were invited appeared to be delighting themselves with the surplus of food laid out. Though only her parents were the hosts, Angel was put in charged of entertaining guests and making sure everyone was alright. Angel although reluctant had no intent to be dismayed by her parent’s request. Alas, she walked around making small talk with the people. Asking if everything is going just fine, any suggestions or requests.
Whilst she was walking around she wanted to take note that everything seemed like fine dining. The Valley Hall, owned by the Dayes since forever how long. It was Angel’s first time being here inside in person due to how only her parents were there to assist for catering and serving the dishes they made. Her parents were chefs after all. But now it was her turn to be enamoured by how elegant the scene was, with the slow and bright tones of the summer evenings. The event is said to be a long one, which to Angel translated to “your going to have to talk a bunch” while she did not mind being a spokesperson she was glad to know she was not the only one talking, it seems like their very own guests were entertaining themselves. There were plenty of tables, decorated with lilies alike. Candle lit and complimentary cloth, embroidered with fancy laces. Laughed and amused of how everything was clothed nicely.
Filipino dishes, soups like tinola and sinigang were rich and tangy. Crispy patas, Adobo and Bicol express that are savoury was included. Unsure if the dishes were to anyones liking due to how unique and exotic the dishes were she was relived that besides filipino cuisine there was many other cuisines as well. Other dishes, like spaghettis, bam bam shrimp and fish and chips, and salads, perhaps chicken too. At this point on her observation too many to count. There was also a bar area for any beverages the adults might find interest in. Other drinks that were fine for kids to enjoy were in a separate compartment. Grabbing a Shirley temple in a wine glass. Once again, intrigued by the intricate patterns indented to the glass.
The desserts were her personal favourites though she was not one to have a sweet tooth they were also appetizing. Halo Halo, to her it was fruity and abundance of flavour. Leche plan, thick and the creamy caramel was the cherry on top. Vanilla cakes and chocolate covered strawberries beside it was fruits of any kind in a bowl. Though regrettably she had not tasted any of her home desserts once.
Brushing her outfit to get rid of the wrinkles. The rose gold satin silk dress, with a white shawl to complement the entire outfit. Her hair kept and dark like obsidian. As the highly winds brushed slightly to her ghost painted face her maple lips perked together as she see her parents going up to her. Confused on what’ll happened now.
“Angel, mahal ko, kumusta na ang lahat hanggang ngayon?” her mother, Gemma Dayes asked with a quick delivery as always
“Ayos lang.” she replied with a warm smile
Her mother smiled along and nodded her head.
“Sige, nandoon na lang ako kasama ng ibang bisita. Mag-enjoy ka lang!” her mother says while she walked away
Angel simply nodded but she decided to go along with her mother to see the guests she was going to join with. However the meeting with the guests were making her quite curious by the minute. The festival is going quite well. But yet again, not all guest were friendly, some were even critics, yes even the ones with reputable reputations were getting criticized too. Doesn’t seem like the case when she met the guests her mom was walking towards. The Hestridges. Not knowing much about them, the Dayes seemed to have a relation between them. Allies or partners was how she saw it. No one caught her attention yet but it was apparent she caught the eyes of everyone. She was about to be a heir to a legacy and a fine restaurant after all. Angel tapped her mom’s shoulder. Letting her know she followed her. But when she announced herself discreetly, instead of shock she was met with excitement. Now this was getting extremely odd. Why was mother so full of glee. Stepping back, what her mother did was introduced herself to the Hestridge family.
Whilst the people were having their ongoing conversations, the singer sang her jaunty jazz tune.
The Hestridges seem to be filled with interest to see her too. What for? This was getting really weird. No one would tell her anything. It was mostly the parents who seemed to be smiling calmly. Noticing her father walking towards them. Again, people keep appearing out of nowhere! Angel was getting confused by the second by the whiplash of people appearing left and right. Won’t matter she turned to her parents hoping they would explain the situation at hand. The Hestridges were doing the same. To who?
“Ma? Pa? What’s going on?” she asked clearly confused
Her parents did not hear her question. Looking over her surroundings it would have been more obvious that they were introducing her to someone. Angel now paying attention she looked over the family. The Hestridges were really refined themselves. But both Dayes and Hestridges have something both in common. They have reputations, and to her surprise it looks like they too have unique features, just like the Dayes. Granted that, both families probably have something to appear refined she was completely clueless to their history.
“Hello, Mrs and Mr Hestridge. I’m very pleased to know you’ve made it! I hope your trip to Wales was not so daunting?” her father, Robert Dayes said with a more serious tone. Her father would've been more chalant but he knew the tone and the room good for him. He handles the dishes and the recipes.
"We would like to introduce our daughter, Angel Colette Dayes." her mom chipped in, she really looks youthful, she handles finances and the market. Much more reserved than her beaming father.
Many people said she looked an awful lot like her Father. Now that he was in a light she did see what they’re getting at. She just hoped people won’t comment or point it out so much. Again, she disregard any questions about herself. Considered it too tedious. Parents were pushing her to continue her to be a very outspoken person. She thought she was soft spoken. Her voice is rather soft and well rich to some. Resonant and elegant. Not crisp though, her tone was more warm and soft waves that wash over you. Angel straightened her posture but not too stiff, she still allowed herself to relax and breathe. Her parents were very persistent of being authentic and honest. So being rather casual she focused on making a impression. In one, two, three.
“Greetings, Mrs and Mr Hestridge. I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m Angel, Angel Colette Dayes.” she said while offering a handshake.
“Shoot! I think I overdone it! But offering one shouldn’t be so horrible!”
Angel was still unshaken. Didn’t overlook it too much it seems everything was going smoothly.
“Am I the only one doing the talking?”
“I do hope the event is to your liking?” she said with a calm chuckle.
The locket she wore swang like a pendulum around her neck as she leaned in. The locket she wore swang like a pendulum around her neck as she leaned in. Ah yes, the locket, most expensive item the Dayes has and will forever will be. It was a heirloom, made purely from gold. The finest mineral, it was rumored that the Father's side of the family owned a castle. Such assumption can only be hearsay but to their own amusement they were rich ridiculously, at least her mother came from a more different upbringing than her father. Accumulated wealth would only bring a terrible presence, her own father did actually, it was because of a unsettling aura he had. It really only affected people who were simply too frightened.
Speaking of family and history, her mother came from the Viaros, who were by definition by whispers muggle raised. At this time her parents were explaining to her the terms she'll use to introduce herself as. Only then did she knew she'd have to refuse. Being half breed was something not to shy away from. Yet the public was only petrified by the revelation that the family may seem more affluent in wealth than they display. Caused a rift in her Father's side of the family who were traditional and high class. Pureblood by status really, she can only shake her head, some people try to hard to appear rich and fancy it seems. Conversations were taken place near the tables, the two families who at the scene was extremely important. Angel once again showed a more ritzy composure, as she smiled slightly.
