Water
River stood on the edge of the lake, looking down at the dark waters. This world still felt so overwhelming to him. He did meet a few good people who he thinks are his friends. He's never been very good at making friends, or even knowing if he had friends.
He tossed a rock into the water; it plunked into the darkness.
Even if this world was so new and exciting, he did miss his Aunt. Even if they drove each other crazy, she'd probably be making some new stupid food post about now. Or driving River crazy.
Who was he kidding? He was glad to be away from that crazy bat.
He chuckled to himself, picked up a flat stone, and skipped the rock on the glassy water. It bounced about eight times before sinking into the water.
He sighed. Why did he still feel uneasy? Like he didn't belong; did he have friends? He'd been alone most of his life, besides his aunt. No best friends, no girls he had liked. He never fit in. Never thought he belonged anywhere.
What was he going to be now? Before, he wanted to be a football player. Play for Arsenal. But now his world was inside out and upside down. Do wizards have soccer? What jobs could they even have besides professors?
A rock flew from the lake and smacked him right in the forehead. He fell to his back, looking up at the sky.
"Ouch..." he said dully. "Of course the water throws back here..." his blood now slowly oozed from as small gash on his forehead.

Water
Callum was taking an afternoon stroll around the lake after classes, he had his hands in his pockets and was kicking rocks along the path. The lake was quiet, just the sound of rippling water and the occasional breeze. In the distance, there was another student standing by the edge of the lake chucking stones into the water like it owed him money.
He had barely any time to think of it before, smack, a rock came flying back out of the water and nailed him straight in the forehead.
Callum froze. “Nahh, you’re joking..” he muttered, he stopped kicking the rocks along the path. He wasn’t about to risk that.
“Ah mate, that’s rough, innit,” he called out to the student as he came over, trying not to laugh. “You just got absolutely done in by a lake. Proper tragic, that.”
Callum crouched beside him. “You alright, mate? Looks like you took a proper hit.” He tilted his head, grinning a bit. “You must’ve offended the thing somehow. Maybe your rock-skipping technique wasn’t to its liking.” He couldn’t help but let out a chuckle now. Callum was about to go into his third year of school, and the whole time he has been here, nothing has happened like this before.
