Diagon Alley was cold and rainy, Jay had come here over the holidays to get some potion ingredients and a new book but it had started raining halfway through her trip, she didn't exactly hate the rain she just didn't like it when it was pouring down in buckets on her paper bags.

Damn it all, seriously? When I go to get BOOKS this happens?

Jay runs into the nearest shop, trying to escape the cold droplets that were slamming down onto her back, when she reached the safety of the shopfront Jay looked up to see the windows of the shop were filled with cages, baskets and aquariums. They seemed haphazardly placed but in a way that seemed careful and precise to fit as many of them comfortably.

Curiosity came over Jay and she walked closer to the foggy windows, her hair fading from its usual brown and pink to a purple with dark green and blue hidden in-between the streaks of purple hair and her eyes turned a light pink with magenta flecks as she stared into the shop, not seeing much because of the fogged up glass.

She walked towards the door and saw a sign above the door. On it was painted the words The Magical Menagerie Jay, being curious walked into the shop, a chime announcing her presence, it stopped making noise after she walked inside.

This looked like a pet shop. Sorta. Jay had only ever really seen muggle pet shops as she had only been to Diagon Ally a few times. Like the shopfront window everything was cluttered and stacked together but seemed perfectly stable. Another thing she noticed were small sounds like scuttling, hissing and maybe even the flapping of wings here and there.

Jay did a full circle and saw a verity of pets, some exotic, some she had seen in Hogwarts with their students from time to time, mostly cats, toads, owls and sometimes even a pigmypuff here and there. This shop housed many of those animals but there are many other animals here like spiders snakes and...

Ferrets?

Jay walked a bit closer to the ferrets and lifted her hand forwards, about to touch the bars that held the small creatures when a small, short cough sounded from behind Jay who jumped like an electrical shock had gone through her.

"Oh, sorry did I scare you?" a soft, cheerful voice filtered through the atmosphere of the shop and Jay turned around to see an old woman, she had a kind face and she seemed to make she shop light up, even on this grey and rainy afternoon.

Jay walked up to her "Nice to meet you, I'm Jay Valkyrie" she paused "I take it you are the owner of this shop?" The older woman held out her hand and Jay took it, shaking her hand gently. "I sure am dearie. Its not every day I meet a student the same height as me" she giggled kindly "I'm sure you will shoot up soon, like a bean sprout"

Jay was usually rather self conscious about her height but she seemed to not mind as the elder lady said it "My name is Anita Witticker, nice to meet you Jay"

Anita is such a pretty name!

"Are you looking for a pet by any chance? If so allow me to help you" Jay wasn't really looking for a pet but she might as well have a look around since the rain wasn't going to stop anytime soon.

As Jay walked around the room with Anita she noticed that maybe she did want a pet, she ran her mind through the options, she didn't want a cat, they left hair everywhere and were obnoxious as hell, toads and frogs were cool and all but she wasn't keen on them in her room, owls were nice but everyone had an owl and Jay wanted to try something new.

"Can you show me the ferrets?" Jay asked Anita as she finished with the frogs. "Alright then, its not every day someone is asking to see them!" They walked over to the ferrets and Anita started showing her all the different types of ferrets like she was a mother taking about her children.

"See this one here is an albino ferret" Anita pointed at one of the white ferrets curled up in the corner, sleeping happily "They have pink eyes too, but she's sleeping so I can't really show you" Anika looked at Jay's eyes "They look quite like yours except they are quite a bit darker."

Jay blinked and a darker pink seeped into the lighter one until it was fully dark pink"Like this?" Anika grinned "Exactly like that! Now this next ferret has your usual darker colors with white, very beautiful" Anita smiled and Jay noticed one of the ferrets jumping around, seemingly dancing...or acrobatics Jay didn't know.

Jay stared into the cage and watched as the ferret jumped, landing on the sleepy one with a loud scree of delight, the albino waking up and hissing at the brown one. Anita tutted softly, shaking her head "Full of energy that one" she smiled at the ferret, still zooming around.

"I like her!" Jay grinned "Does she have a name?" Anita nodded "Yes, her name is Nacho, my husband named her, quite cute don't you think?"

Nacho huh? Well you're too cute to leave here, no matter what Sunny says

"I'll take her" Jay straightened up "how much were the ferrets again? 14 galleons, 2 sickles if I remember correctly"

Anita nodded, smiling at the thought of Nacho getting a nice home, she opened up the enclosure and picked out Nacho, putting her into another, slightly smaller enclosure. Anita said goodbye to Nacho and Jay, the rain having stopped.

"Thank you!" Jay called as she walked out the door "No problem dearie!" Anita called back as the door shut, the Magical Menagerie disappearing behind Jay as she walked towards the entrance to the Leaky Cauldron, a new friend in hand.
