Lily was moving down the corridors, trying to find her best friend, Maddy. The Transfiguration lesson had just ended, and it hadn't gone half-bad. The professor introduced them to the different branches of Transfiguration, and Lily was surprised to have understood a tiny bit of it, even though she hadn't expected to.
After the lesson ended, Maddy had gone over to Ryder for some reason. She didn't say anything, which was a bit unusual for her. However, Lily stayed behind with the rest of her friends and started small talk with one of them while packing up.
After some time, when Maddy still hadn't returned, Lily decided to look for her in the corridors where they might have been walking. She started down the length of the corridor, one hand carrying her bag loosely, the other swaying beside her. Then she saw them. They were talking, more like quarreling about something.
She went near them, unsure of what she would hear. She walked up to them and said, "Hey, guys!" Then to Maddy, "What's keeping you, Maddy? We need to go to the next lecture as well..." She shifted her weight from one leg to another, unsure of what she would hear...

I just saw Lily......with Ryder. Wow, I sure hope he didnt say anything to her.
Talking about Ryder, I need to talk to him about his attitude, unacceptable.
Why am I still talking to myself, got to go after him.
Maddy was just talking to herself since the class got over. She had noticed Ryder not even trying to talk to people. Her parents had always told her that Hogwarts is like her Home. She needs to find her people and she did but it seems like her cousin didn't quite understand the meaning of 'finding your people' means. Or maybe he just doesnt care. Probably the latter since we are talking about Ryder Hawke.
Maddy runs after Ryder hoping to talk to him. It has been so many days since they since they had came to Hogwarts and she hadn't even talked to he cousin once.
"RYDER!! Wait Up!"
Maddy had just caught up to Ryder, "Alright, First of all. SLOW DOWN, who are you running from? Also what is up with the attitude?"
As soon as she said that she heard Lily(her bestie) "Oh Hiya Lils! Sorry I saved you a seat but someone else came. Also meet my cousin Ryder Hawke, your transfiguration seat partner from now on. Hope he wasn't rude."
Maddy gave Ryder a serious look that clearly said: 'We will talk later about familial drama, behave for now.'

Now that is looong
Class over and Ryder is walking out of there. He noticed Maddy looking at him throughout the class and he knew she was going to come to talk about what has been going on. But Ryder just wasn't in the mood.
He had just booked his whole year in transfiguration class next to a VERY bubble Hufflepuff. How he managed to spend a whole class next to her was something even Ryder couldn't understand. He thought he would have felt annoyed but it was something exactly opposite to that. He felt light-headed, as if there was nothing in the world that could pull his mood down.
He walked out of the classroom, jaw tight when he heard Maddy calling. He slowed down but didnt stop, just to snap a reaction out of her and that is exactly what happened as he heard her scream his name. She came right in front of him putting his brooding walk to a stop.
"I wasn't running, this is something called walking, bet you wouldn't know that." He taunted her. "I see you're still shouting across the hallways Mads, this isn't the Tomlinson mansion..."
His shoulders loosened slightly, I guess he missed talking to the Only family he had.
But he soon heard another voice. His posture changed slightly. Of course, Lily Clarke.
He acknowledged her presence with a slight nod. He’d already placed her somewhere in his mind, and she’d stayed there.
When Maddy added hope he wasn’t rude, Ryder let out a quiet breath, eyes sliding toward her with a brief, unimpressed look.
“Do I look like I go around picking fights in corridors?” he said dryly.
After a moment he said, "Dont worry, she survived."
After looking at Lily he added, "Didnt run into anything this time...." It was subtle, but there was a thread of dry humor there, tying back to their first meeting. His gaze lingered just a moment, making sure it landed as intended, before shifting away again.
Seeing the look Maddy gave him he nodded, of course they would talk later. She isn't going to let it go down easily.
Ryder adjusted the strap on his shoulder, looking down the corridor toward their next class before flicking his gaze back to both of them.
“You two coming, or are we staying here all day?”
Say whatever you want about me. Just don’t touch what’s mine.

"Oh Hiya Lils! Sorry, I saved you a seat, but someone else came. Also, meet my cousin Ryder Hawke, your transfiguration seat partner from now on. Hope he wasn't rude."
Ryder Hawke, Maddy's cousin? THAT came as a surprise to Lily, since she did NOT even think of them being related to each other in any way. Maddy was all goofy, energetic, and loved making new friends, while Ryder kept to himself, didn't talk much, and well, was pretty much introverted.
She saw Ryder giving a small nod to him, accepting her presence. Somehow, handling the news, she said, "Oh wow! I didn't really think that you both would turn out to be cousins. You are both so different from each other. No offense meant. Also, no problem, Mads. At least you saved one. And no, he was not rude to me."
She noticed Ryder giving a look to Maddy. “Do I look like I go around picking fights in corridors?” he said dryly. Lily silently chuckled at this. He sort of did and didn't both at the same time, though how, she didn't understand... "Dont worry, she survived.", he added. "Yeah, I did. definitely." Lily thought.
"Didnt run into anything this time...." This was directly directed to Lily, whose ears turned red almost immediately. Oh why, just why?
Hearing him say that they needed to go to a class, Lily immediately exhaled, glad at the topic being changed. "Let's go, Mads.", she said.

Maddy saw it.
She fully saw it.
The red ears.
The look.
The comment.
And for some minutes her brain went numb as she say their interaction and then........
“Oh. My. Merlin.”
Her head snapped between Lily and Ryder trying to figure out what was happening here.
“NO—no, wait—hold on—” she raised both hands, backing up a step like she needed space to process this absolute nonsense. “Did I just witness—was that—was that a moment?”
Her eyes went wide.
“Mads leaves for TWO MINUTES and suddenly we’ve got what is this?? INSIDE JOKES??”
She pointed straight at Ryder.
“You.”
Then immediately at Lily.
“YOU.”
Then dramatically at both of them at once.
“WHAT IS GOING ON.”
A mischievous grin spread across her face as she stared them down. Oh this is something she had never expected. Ryder making jokes?
She accusingly pointed at Ryder, “since when do you make jokes? Did you hit your head? Is this a medical situation? Should I get a professor??”
Suddenly she gasped, “WAIT—oh my Merlin,this is worse.!!”
“You’re trying to impress her.”
Maddy gave him a stare down and started laughing, “Ryder Hawke. Impressing people. Voluntarily. I never though I'd live to see this!”
Then suddenly like she was brought back to life from the shock he grasped Lily's wrist dragging her away, “COME ON, we are NOT missing class for this but we are ABSOLUTELY discussing it later.”
She motioned to Ryder that she will be watching. “And don’t think I forgot.......” she pointed sharply at Ryder “......family meeting. You, me and a lot of explanations young man!”
“Also, Lils—” she said in a normal voice like she wasn't shouting just seconds ago, “if he says anything else remotely funny, I expect a full report ok?”
Then she shouted at Ryder across the hallway again,
“AND IF YOU MAKE HER BLUSH AGAIN I’M MAKING IT EVERYONE’S PROBLEM.”

Ryder had stopped walking to hear Maddy ramble. Yeah he was used to this. She was always really loud, "Mads, you done or you need a stage?"
His cousin was just going over the moon. What Can he not be nice?
When Maddy practically shouted that he was trying to impress her. He looked at Lily, a beat passed and he said,
"It's not like I even had to try."
His lips quirked somewhat upwards as he looked at her expecting the same reaction as before which he knew he would get. It was oddly satisfying.
He saw Maddy hold Lily's wrist and take her away, "Dont pull the poor girl's hands out."
Ryder just shook his head at his cousin and started walking towards them
Ryder heard his cousin shout across the hallway as he reached them.
He made eye contact with Lily still smirking a little, hands in his pocket. This time the gaze stayed there for a little longer than usual.
He Heard Maddy shout "AND IF YOU MAKE HER BLUSH....."
He looked down and whispered, "…you say that like it’s difficult,” under his breath.
Not loud.
But not quiet enough to miss either.
He looked ahead again like nothing happened.
He adjusted the strap on his shoulder and walked ahead of them. The smirk gone from his face in a flash.
He looked at Maddy, "If you are going to make it that big of a problem......keep up."
He sarcastically smiled at them both and walked away like he didn't just start a whole new mess.

"Oh. My. Merlin.” Maddy said. Lily sighed. Maddy was going to be dramatic again; this was a certain sign of it.
“NO—no, wait—hold on—Did I just witness—was that—was that a moment? Mads leaves for TWO MINUTES, and suddenly we’ve got what is this?? INSIDE JOKES??”
"Maddy, calm down. You weren't there when we, sorry, I, bumped into him. Nothing much. Chill out. "
Instead, Maddy dramatically pointed at both of them and asked what was going on. She even asked him whether he was alright or not? Lily was about to reply when Maddy said something that made her heart skip a beat.
“WAIT—oh my Merlin, this is worse!! You’re trying to impress her.” Saying this, Maddy started laughing.
Oh my gods. Lily couldn't see them, but she was sure her cheeks were red. At least her ears and the bac of her neck were..... Why did Maddy had to do that?
But it was Ryder's comment that really made her red. "It's not like I even had to try." Ryder smirked a bit, and Lily's cheeks were for sure red now. She really wished she could turn invisible. But she couldn't. Gods why? Is that how having a crush felt like? Lily could feel her heartbeat rising. "Calm down, dude. I am trying to survive here." She told her heart. No use. Instead, her heart rate increased.
And then she yelped. Maddy had suddenly grabbed her arm and was dragging her away, saying. “COME ON, we are NOT missing class for this, but we are ABSOLUTELY discussing it later.”
Then to Lily, she said. “Also, Lils—if he says anything else remotely funny, I expect a full report ok?” Lily nodded. What else was she supposed to say?
And then Maddy shouted again. "AND IF YOU MAKE HER BLUSH AGAIN I’M MAKING IT EVERYONE’S PROBLEM.”
"…you say that like it’s difficult.” Ryder whispered under his breath, his voice reaching over to her. Lily blushed harder. No, her heart was again racing. Oh gods.... How she hated yet loved that feeling at the same time....
And then she let herself be dragged away by Maddy.
