Alex was sitting down on the grass, rugged up in  a hoodie and woolen beanie. Every time she took a breath, a jet of misted air would exhale from her mouth, and she rubbed her hand together every so often, not wanting them to get cold. Her brown hair could just be seen peeking out from a blue and grey beanie, and skin paled by the cold stood out in the greens and browns of the Great Lake.

Not many people were out at this time of the day, with the sun nearly disappearing for the night, and a cold, winter breeze stung your skin like a nest of bees. But Alex was, for reasons unknown to even herself. Maybe because of the stuffiness of the overcrowded Gryffindor common room, or the refreshing loneliness of being the sole person outside.

Alex looked up, and observed the Great Lake from a distance. Sheets of ice already covered its surface, even though winter had already began. A couple of water plants poked out from the edges, some covered in thin ice, others somehow managing to go through the winter unfrozen. Where the water hadn't turned to ice was a bunch of wet, soggy patches, almost like a bog.

Alex sighed, and went to stand up. No point staying here now, there was nothing to do. Besides, the sun was nearly down, and nighttime was approaching. She turned around only to find someone else only a couple of metres away, and, surprised as she was, Alex let out a little yelp.

"Oh my gosh, I didn't see you there," she said, placing a hand on her chest as if to steady her quick heartbeat.

Alex scrambled up from the fall, trying to locate the girl in the thick mist. She cursed herself continuously, why did she have to be so clumsy? When she finally caught sight of the girl - in the shallow parts of the Great Lake near the shore - she nearly slapped her hands on her forehead in despair. But she didn't, instead, she walked up to the shore of the lake, with the girl a couple of metres off.

Although soaking wet, Alex could see pale skin, spiky, bright blue hair, and green eyes that stood out in the gloomy, misty lake. She remembered seeing the girl now and then, never meeting her, but always liking the blue hair. No one else at Hogwarts seemed to have that shade except for this girl, so she stood out. Her name was... well, Alex could never remember things like that. Scout? Stacy? Steph?

Looking at the cold water, with mist hanging above it like a curtain, Alex had second thoughts on entering the lake. But she couldn't just leave the girl there, and it was her fault that the girl was in there in the first place, so it wouldn't be very fair if she just left her here. So, clutching her school robes tightly to her body, Alex slowly walked into the lake. The cold water slowly crept into her clothes, making Alex shiver. She reached a hand into the direction of the girl, which she couldn't see clearly, with mist thickening around her.

"Hello? Grab my hand if you can see it, I am so sorry for running into you! Are you okay?"
