Tre Return of the Golden child
Blue in English, Red in KoreanEun-ji expected a storm coming her way after she returned from the protest but her house remained blissfully silent that evening. She looked around, feeling more unsettled than relieved. Surely, her grandparents already learned about her activities in the Diagon alley, did they not? And yet, there was no trace of them to be found. Shrugging the bad feeling, the Ravenclaw played with Mordred for a bit, prepared and ate her dinner and then went to read in her bedroom until sleep eventually claimed her. It was a fitful one but that was nothing new to her.
Her mother had clearly taken an overnight shift because the leftovers from Eun-ji’s cooking still sat in the fridge untouched, when she woke up next morning. The girl sighed before reaching out to the cold box for some eggs to fix herself an omelet. Strangely enough, the Hunts still didn’t show up. The lack of reaction grated at her nerves though she supposed the old couple might have gone away due to work, which would explain why they hadn’t visited yet. Sighing once more, the young witch eventually stood up and ventured to the Hunt’s villa armed with nothing but her ballet exercising outfit. The witch figured that since the mountain did not come to her, she might as well go face the wrath herself to get it over with. And if they weren’t home? Good. Then she could practice in peace for once.
Even with all that overthinking however, Eun-ji couldn’t have possibly predicted what was about to happen. At first, she was pleased to find out that the villa was indeed empty. Smiling to herself, she carelessly forwarded her steps to her practice studio. She was actually hoping for one full peaceful day as she started warming up and going through her current ballet routine. But of course, it was not meant to be and the main door opened with a loud bang just a few minutes later. Considering the grand entrance, the witch assumed it was her grandmother, so she didn’t bother to come and greet her. She will come find me soon enough. “You little rat! Where are you?!” And just like that, Eun-ji suddenly forgot how to breathe. This voice… This was not her grandparents nor her annoying aunt. This…this was her uncle. Her uncle, who had no business being here. If he did…it meant his memories returned.
In a flash, the familiar man appeared in front of her all red in the face, his usually kind expression twisted by rage. “The hell did you do to me?!” He roared immediately. Eun-ji swallowed, trying to hide how frightened she was. She expected this to happen eventually; she really shouldn’t have been this surprised. “I didn’t do anything.” She protested weakly, well aware that it was a blatant lie. Her uncle gritted his teeth and took a step forward, obviously not fooled either. “Exactly! You knew who I was and said nothing! You pretended to be my friend. I thought of you as my niece not knowing you actually were exactly that. You played me for a fool!” In response to his outburst, the young witch took a step back. His crash out was valid but that didn’t mean she was going to just stand there. “You seemed happy in your new life. I didn’t want to ruin it.” She tried to reason with him with yet another lie, but he had seen right through her. He truly did take after his father. “Bullshit! You know my parents, so you understand how disapproving they’d be of my new life! I married a muggle for a God’s sake. A man on top of that! And you encouraged me! You did it on purpose. I may not know why yet but you can bet I will find out and deal with you accordingly.”
In spite of all that yelling, Eun-ji could see some conflict mirroring in her uncle’s eyes. It seemed that even though his memories came back, they waged a war with his new ones. It must have been terribly confusing to his brain. “You wanting to marry him has nothing to do with your old memories. Your feelings aren’t affected by your past. You can’t pin that on me.” Given the situation at hand, this was perhaps not the smartest thing to say no matter how true she believed it to be. Alexander growled and grabbed her arms in an iron grip. “I can, little rat. John Doe was weak, Alexander Hunt would have never gave in and made such stupid decision! I wouldn’t disgrace our lineage like that.” He snapped, shaking her as if trying to rattle some sense into her. Unfortunately, Eun-ji had long let go of all common sense when it came to Hunts. They were a crazy bunch so she learned to speak their language.
“Fine.” She hissed, her voice sharp like a dagger. “I did it on purpose but if you want to blame somebody, blame your shitty parents.” Her mouth twisted into something ugly, almost cruel. “Before I met them, I would have never even thought of such scheme…Now let go!” She jerked her body, finally escaping his grasp and bolting towards the door. In the state her uncle was in, there would be no reasoning with him. No words could soften the inner demons he was currently fighting. Alas, the man was not willing to end their discussion there and rushed after his niece without a moment of hesitation. He’d catch her of course. His hand closed around her wrist just as she reached the threshold, fingers locking tight as if he was never planning to let go. And for a heartbeat, Eun-ji believed it. Her world was falling apart once again. Then the main door swung open and her mother walked in.
Though shocked, the woman was still a welcome distraction. “Alex?” She muttered as if testing her brother’s name. “You…you are alive?” Her gaze slid from him to Eun-ji. “And you knew?” Eun-ji bit inside of her cheek, tasting copper but ultimately decided lying was not an option. “Yes.” She confirmed simply. There were tears in her mother’s eyes now, and she rubbed her face in something akin to total resignation, but she still didn’t reprimand her daughter. Still didn’t dare. “Let go of her Alex. You can come speak with her when you’ve calmed down.” The man’s grip tightened for a fraction of second. “She is the Hunt’s family heiress now so don’t act recklessly.” Eleanor went on, the words coming out of her mouth like an unforgivable curse. “Talk to our parents first, they should be home soon.” And that did it. At last, the shock of the revelation loosened his grip, long enough to let her mother drag her out of the house. Eun-ji didn’t look back. She didn’t know what future awaited her after this but she was certain it wouldn’t be kind…
