As Kaitlyn hummed happily, she glided gracefully out of Hogwarts Castle. Her cute Mist Hopper was chewing on a carrot stick and cuddled up in the crook of her arm. She giggled, gently petting her bunny. “You are so, so cute!” She exclaimed, happy to have Demeter as her pet. ‘Finding her near the Forbidden Forest was the best part, too!’
The young Slytherin skipped out to the grounds, her enchanted satchel bouncing against her hip. It was such a nice day outside, and she wanted to enjoy every moment of it she could muster. Prefect duties could wait a bit … in her opinion. There was only just so much time that she could spend outside, especially to enjoy this spring weather! Besides, being outside was … kind of … following her prefect duties. It was one of the places she was expected to patrol, after all.
Her heels clipped against the earth as Kaitlyn headed to a small cluster of trees. As she moved, she noticed a few stray puffs of hair here and there. Some were colored darkly, like brown and black, which looked like they came from one of the many creatures lurking around. And … yet … wait. Bright pink?
The young teenager stopped in her tracks and frowned. ‘Wait, why is there …’ Her mind trailed off as she noticed a puff of purple fur. She lifted her blue eyes toward the cluster of trees she was hoping would be a reprieve for the time being … and they widened in alarm from just the plethora of fur in different colors bunching up around. ‘I … oh. These look like pygmy puff fur … but why is there just so much of it on the grounds? Am I being pranked or something?’
Kaitlyn glanced around herself, not noticing anyone watching her with that gleeful expression of someone waiting for a prank to land. The few other students she saw … seemed preoccupied by whatever they were doing. ‘Ok … maybe not a prank? Just overexcited pygmy puffs shedding like crazy? Let’s go with that … and, well … I guess this is something I shouldn’t just ignore ….’ She looked at a larger ball of fluff and quickly shook her head.
‘Yeah … no. Can’t just ignore it. I’m a prefect, after all. I may not wear the badge often, but that doesn’t mean the younger students don’t look at me as a potential role model. I do wonder if any of them think of me in such a fashion … eh, unlikely. I very much doubt I look like a role model that others should strive for. Regardless … this is an area I’m responsible for … and I’m here. I’m not about to delegate this work to someone else … that just feels wrong, after all. I don’t mind doing hard work … Besides, I would hate to tell someone else to handle this, if it was a prank … Ehh, I’ll take care of it … and join in on the laughs if it is, indeed, a prank. I do need to lighten up sometimes …’
Looking back at Demeter, Kaitlyn gently tickled her Mist Hopper. “Change in plans, my little cutie … let’s clean up all of this fur first,” she gently cooed, giggling.
Slowly … slowly … very slowly, Kaitlyn took her time picking up the balls of fur … of all different colors! A small smile formed on her lips. ‘It seems like a waste to just … ditch these. I wonder if I can just … pocket some?’ With a snicker, she dropped her satchel at her feet and took out an empty vial. She wrapped multiple strands of fur around her fingers, stuffing the pink and purple strands into the vial. ‘These will look awesome next to my jar of horned slugs.’ She placed her … now full … vial into a safe pocket of her satchel, then continued on with cleaning.
With another giggle, Kaitlyn started to stuff the mounds of fur into her satchel to dispose of later … after her desired relaxation time with her Mist Hopper.
After about half an hour, Kaitlyn finished cleaning up the fur and let out a contented sigh. She sat at the base of one of the trees, dropping her satchel in the process. She took out a leather-bound journal and began to write while playing with Demeter.
