Flame walked out of the charms classroom feeling defeated. She hated what had just happened and was desperately trying not to cry. She had been having a good day up until the end of class. Charms had even gone well for once. But when Flame had read themark at the top of her paper that she worked tirelessly on, Flame knew she was done for.
Flame had always had trouble with charms from the very first lesson. Basically what happened earlier was that at the end of the lesson when Flame had went up to collect her paper she had almost burst into tears right then and there. She had gotten such a bad mark! She had even accidentally said her mark out loud but luckily she didn’t think anyone heard her. This really hurt Flame because, unlike any other class, charms was really hard for her and she really was trying!
Flame hoped that no one had overheard her when she had yelled out her mark. After all, everyone except for her closest friends thought that Flame was passing charms with flying colours just like every other class she took. Flame started walking down the corridors making her way through groups of people. When all if a sudden, she felt a tap on her shoulder.

Amalie enjoyed Charms so much, that time always seemed to fly past and she was always rather disappointed when the lesson ended. Today was no different. When the Professor dismissed the class, Amalie sighed and gathered up her books and rolled up the parchment she had taken notes on. She tucked these into her bag, slung it over her shoulder and got up to leave. As always, she had been graded full marks on her paper.
As she was leaving the class, pleased with her work, Amalie noticed the Flame leaving rather forlornly. Then she remembered what happened during the class. Flame had yelled out her not-too-good marks and Amalie realised from her face, that she wasn't exactly happy or satisfied with them. This surprised Amalie, because she knew Flame was smart and worked hard during classes. She and Flame weren't the best of friends but they had a good relationship.
She quickly left the classroom trying to spot Flame among the students in the crowded corridor. When she saw her some distance ahead, Amalie quickened her pace and followed Flame down the corridor. Catching up, she tapped her on the shoulder, and when the other girl turned, she asked quietly, with a soft smile, "Hey Flame, are you okay?"

Flame turned around the girl behind her was one of the Slytherins. Flame's anger almost flared up until she realized that it was Amalie. Amalie and Flame were not close but Flame knew Amalie was kind and would have liked to be friends with her. Amalie smiled at her and for some reason she calmed down a bit. her shoulders relaxed and her pousture changed slightly.
Amalie asked Flame if she was okay. Was Flame okay? Flame didn't know anymore. Her marks were seriously dropping in charms. Flame sighed. "Not really..." She admitted "I've never really been good at charms and I'm really good at everything else but my marks are dropping fast." Flame sighed.
"It's not like I have not been trying! I've been putting all my effort into my work! Doing every Charms homework first so I can give it all of my attention and have it done for the next class! I just don't get how I can be so good at everything else but when it comes to charms I just can't."
Flame finally stopped talking and looked at Amalie. She sighed when she realized how much she had been talking. She looked back at Amalie. "Sorry for dumping that all on you..."

Amalie listened quietly, never once interrupting. Her face revealed nothing, just wearing a calm expression that made it easy for Flame to keep talking. So, she had been right — it was the grades that had upset Flame. Amalie couldn't really relate to the other girl's situation but she was empathetic enough to understand it.
By the time Flame was apologising, Amalie's gaze had softened. She said quietly, "You don't have to apologise. Seriously, you deserve to let out all that frustration."
After a moment, she said again, "Honestly, the fact that you care so much alone says a lot. Most people would have given up after putting in half the effort you have. Sometimes, the more pressure you put on yourself, the more difficult it becomes to focus. Especially when you're good at everything else."
Amalie tilted her head slightly, her face thoughtful, "And Charms can be very frustrating at times. Plus, the bad grades in one subject don't define anything, least of all your intelligence and capability."
She paused briefly and made a split second decision. "I'm not the best at Charms or anything but umm, if you'd like, I'm always willing to help you out. And who knows, maybe having someone to suffer along with you might make it a lot less frustrating.," she added lightly, as a subtle smile crossed her face.

Flame listened as Amalie talked about pressure and how most people would stop trying after the first or second try. She told Flame that Intelligence is not defined by one subject. And then she suggested that she could help Flame out. They could suffer through it together. Flame let out a small smile a that calming down even more. A little bit of the tension left her shoulders and her posture relaxed slightly. She took a deep breath. She flashed a bright smile at Amalie
“A little help couldn’t hurt!” she said her bright, happy, bouncy personality coming back bit by bit. Flame turned and started walking down the hallway with Amalie. “When do you want to start studying? We could do it now if you like! Or plan it for later? I don’t mind if you have a class after this that you got to go to cause I have a free period right now and have a couple assignments I could do while I wait! I’m fine with whatever!” Flame smiled. Flame was excited to have someone help her study and maybe even use this as a chance to get closer to Amalie. She turned her focus back to the girl in question. “So..” she asked. “Got any preferences?”

Amalie noticed Flame brightening up at her words, glowing back to life like her name. She felt a faint sense of relief at the sight of the other girl's posture relaxing subtly, but noticeably. She had not been entirely sure if her words would actually help, but seeing Flame smile again made her feel strangely pleased at having helped out the Gryffindor.
The sudden stream of enthusiasm that followed nearly caught her off guard. The corner of her lips twitched upward, amusement flickering briefly across her face.
As they began walking down the hallway together, Amalie slowed down to match Flame's pace and listened to her suggestions thoughtfully. She adjusted the strap of her bag over her shoulder, mentally recalling her schedule.
"Non, No, now is good. We can start today if you like, because I actually have a free period right now too," she admitted after a moment.
"Though I should warn you," she added lightly. "I'm probably not as exciting of a study partner as you may think I am. I usually prefer somewhere calm when I study. The library is the obvious choice, though the Study Room and the courtyard can be nice when it's quiet enough. But I don't mind. We can go wherever you prefer."

Flame smiled when Amalie said she was free at the moment. It was good cause if they Both had free periods right now they could both study together. For the first time since the start of the year, Flame felt like she might actually pass her potions class. THe light jumped back into her eyes and the hop returned to her step. And It was all thanks to Amalie! Amalie, who Flame barely knew, Amalie who was there the moment Flame needed someone, Amalie who wasn't even friends withy Flame.
'Yet. She wasn't friends with Flame yet.'as the thought came across her mind. Flame quickly spun on her heel, grabbed Amalie's wrist, and pulled her to the side of the hall. She turned to Amalie and pulled the girl into a hug. "I think you will make a Great study partner." She whispered. "We can work in the Library if you like!" Flame tried to stop the tears from coming, stop her voice from trembling but it happened anyway. She was suprised when her voice came out laced with appreciation. she pulled back from Amalie and wiped the tears from her eyes with her sleeve. "Sorry," She said, a smile on her face. "I didn't want to cry all over you." She grabbed Amalie's hand and pulled her back into the corridors and crowds of people in the direction of the library. She slowed her step so that she didn't completely drag Amalie behind her.
