Luna sat down by an empty compartment, bubbling with excitement. She was finally going to Hogwarts. She opened her book, read, absorbed until the food trolley came. Digging a galleon or two from her pocket, she bought chocolate frogs, and every flavour beans, and dumped them beside her on the seat. Ripping open a chocolate frog, she found herself staring at the twinkling eyes of Wendelin the Weird, who immediately moved out the picture. Sighing, Luna set it down and started eating the chocolate, looking out onto the green hills rolling outside. It was warm and sunny, and the blue sky beamed above. As Luna opened her second chocolate frog, an announcement in the form of a tall prefect told her to “Change into robes” as they would be arriving in half an hour. Slipping on her robes, she realised how nervous she was. Sure she was excited, but there was no way she could deny her anxiety. A new school was always hard, but a magic school where she would know nothing, was infinely worse. As a muggle, she had tried to study but it hadn’t worked; she felt as unprepared as she had been before reading the books. Just then, the compartment door opened, to reveal another first year

Henry had spent some time in multiple different carriages during the ride to Hogwarts but he often found himself moving due to restlessness. He hadn't slept the night before due to nerves too and the fear of being away from his family.

The first group he sat with were a bunch of lads who ended up being so rambuntious that a prefect had to split them all up. Henry had gladly left to find another spot, in which he stayed the longest. It consisted of a few first years and seconds, playing a game of exploding snap. He was more than happy to sit in and watch this fascinating new game. He stayed there ages, exchanging names and interests as well as getting gossip from the second years about what the sorting ceremony and Hogwarts was actually like. By the time he left, they'd all changed into their robes as instructed by an older year and more people had gathered in the compartment, apparently it was getting quite popular. This made Henry make his exit politely with promises to see them at the ceremony. It was weird thinking he may be put in a house with some of them.

Wandering the corridors to find another compartment for the remainder of the ride, Henry'd eventually find one that didn't make him want to run in the opposite direction- it only had one girl in it. Plus, she was reading a book!
Henry refused to waste this opportunity and slowly slid open the door, popping his head inside.
"Hello, what book is that, if you don't mind me asking?"

Luna had ducked her head into various compartments on her long trek down the long bustling hallways, doing fellow students and lugging her trunk along like a ball and chain. It seemed however, that not a single compartment seemed to be quite empty enough, or quiet enough for that matter.
As she closed yet another compartment door as a fanged Frisbee had greeted her upon opening to gales of laughter from a couple of older Raven claws and a younger looking slytheren. She gave a nice, heavy sigh as she went to check her next compartment choice. As she did a prefect brushed past her . "I warned them about those Frisbee's! They've been banned since forever!" he huffed as he opened the compartment door she had just left. Luna watched until the door closed and turned her attention to her newest choice.

A boy and a girl. Both looked about her age and one was reading. Even if crowded by her standards, it at least seemed quiet. She slid open the door without a word to either of them, and after placing her trunk in the area above with a little more effort than she liked to admit, plopped down in the next empty seat before grabbing her newly bought "History of magic" book and beginning to read. Never too late to start. Besides if she didn't read she might have to TALK to them. A shiver went up her spine at that thought. The girl seemed to be on the same page as her reading as well. The boy on the other hand seemed chatty. Maybe she chose too soon..."Oh well" she thought to herself. Too late to leave now, and frankly the idea of lugging that trunk again was the opposite of appealing.

✣ The Greeting ✣

Her brown eyes scanned the area, briefly lighting up as it passed the roaming food trolley. The excitement dissolved as fast as it had come -- she soon realised she didn't have much money left after her spending spree at Diagon Alley. The robes were two sizes too large for her, and her hair was left in a mess of curls that she refused to untangle, yet somehow Dinara managed to exude an air of confidence that at least rendered her appearance passable.

The train was a wondrous place to be, after all, where better to meet new friends? Dinara didn't want to appear too presumptuous by taking a place with the seniors this early on in her school life, so she trotted about excitedly till she peeked into a carriage with three other assumed Year One students who were busy burying their heads into their books.

"WHAT IS UP YOU GUYS! ARE YOU GUYS EXCITED FOR THE YEAR AHEAD?"

The volume that burst out from the tiny frame would've surprised anyone. Heck, it surprised Dinara herself. Perhaps her excitement had gotten the better of her; she figured she probably looked and sounded ridiculous yelling into a carriage while standing in the middle of the train corridors with one hand on her hip and the other raised in an over-enthusiastic fistbump. Still, the brazen young girl didn't care.

She strides into the carriage, gently closing the door behind her before grinning a bright, toothy smile at the people seated around her.

"So... How's everyone doing today?"

Her eyes twinkled with excitement as she cast her gaze on her fellow First Years, eager to make a good first impression.

Luna snapped her book closed with a very cat like start. The door had just exploded as another, more than likely first year, student burst in and had exclaimed her presence to the compartment. Luna found herself feeling what the muggles would call "shook.". How that much volume had come out of this tiny brown haired girl was beyond Luna's comprehension.
It took her a few seconds to even process what she had said, and another to realize that since it was more of an announcement than a statement. Meaning it was addressing everyone in the room rather than any single person. Furthermore, unless one of them responded, awkward silence would follow. Luna hated awkward silences, almost as much as she hated awkward interjections, but this girl was making more of an effort than she herself would have in a million years, and those bright brown eyes looked like her mothers when she wanted to drag Luna out of the house. So she sighed as she set aside her book still looking slightly startled "Um hi." she said in a slightly cold tone,to let the new comer know she was still quite displeased with being disturbed.
Wow what an amazingly warm greeting, she thought to herself sarcastically, mentally face palming before warming up her tone from ice to slightly chilly, and trying again. "Are you always this um..loud?" she asked with a slight, friendly smirk. "Not that I mind "enthusiasm", or whatever other nice way people say obnoxious but..." she gestured to her book. "I'd really like a head start on this." she did however, move her rucksack from the seat next to her and gestured that the girl could sit there if she like. Loud or not she was in no position to turn anyone away any way.

Henry, who had sat down just before Luna had entered, was quietly sat by the window, watching the scenery. This was the first time he had been on a train and he was busy taking it all in. The first girl didn't seem to have much of an issue with him sitting there, so he'd thanked her and sat down. It wasn't like he'd disturb her if she didn't want him to. Sometimes it was better to sit in silence rather than force conversation.

Henry was short for his age, yet with long limbs threatening to show the height he would surely grow to. His older brother was nearing six foot and two inches, whilst his father was around six foot himself. His mother was short though, at five foot one inch. This meant that the nine children they had together were a mix of heights, as well as physical features and personality traits. Henry was purely his mother in a physical sense, usually called the male version of her, with his sandy blonde hair and greenish-blue eyes with pale skin. He was hoping he would indeed grow into his limbs rather than staying short like his elder sister.

As the second girl game in, he didn't move much due to being captivated by the flying blurs of green and brown in front of him, but the last girl certainly caught his attention. He was expecting someone older, bigger, perhaps even just intimidating. But no. It was a girl, clearly a first year, with brown curly hair that looked as if she could be 'IT' from the Addam's Family for Halloween if she kept growing it out. None the less, Henry liked her, she reminded him of one of his sisters. He missed them already.

As the earlier girl spoke, sounding not very impressed, Henry'd lift a hand in a friendly wave to the newbie.

Dinara raised an eyebrow at the rather cold response she got from the girl. Sure, she may have been reading; but it's a train for Heavens' sake! How productive could you be in a rattling carriage? Still, she gave a nod of thanks in acknowledgement to the girl moving her bag away. Though one can be sure that the fiesty young lass would not be letting this snarky comment slip by.

"Well, if you want to read so badly, perhaps you should wait till we reach the school library. I don't think the train makes for a very good place to read, it is rather noisy."

While Dinara did mean to sass the girl, as the words left her mouth, she tapped her chin rather contemplatively. Whatever she said did make sense to her, though she wasn't sure if the girl would appreciate her comment that inevitably ended up coming across rather spunky.

She looked up at the storage compartment, before realising that she probably wasn't the most physically able. Afterall, her small stature at 4' 6" made it tough for her to do some practical activities. She scratched her head sheepishly, wondering if she could stand on the seats to reach the compartment but she figured that it wouldn't be very nice to do so with her rather dirt ridden boots.

Casting a glance at the blonde boy who had waved to her, she broke out in a wide smile, her eyes crinkling as she pushed gestured rather awkwardly to her trunk.

"Heya! Would you mind helping me with this? As you can tell, I'm not exactly the tallest one around."

To prove her point, Dinara flapped her oversized sleeve that covered her hands and shrugged. The whole scene was rather comical, really, with Dinara in her two-sizes-too-large robes (she refused to accept that she had to take the smallest size) sighing exasperatedly at her trunk.

"Well, if you want to read so badly, perhaps you should wait till we reach the school library. I don't think the train makes for a very good place to read, it is rather noisy."

Luna blinked at the statement before narrowing her eyes in a look of glaring dislike, but said nothing. The new girl was right. The train was noisy. So as her options for cutting retorts began dwindling, she settled on reopening her book with a frustrated huff and began sulking silently having a good pout. Maybe she WOULD go to the library, better than this little compartment with total strangers. She blew some of her Raven hair out of her eyes with frustration as she lost place on the page again as the train hit another bump. Stupid train.

"Heya! Would you mind helping me with this? As you can tell, I'm not exactly the tallest one around."
Luna snickered at her helplessness smugly. Realising how extremely grateful she was that the new comer hadn't witnessed Luna's own trail with getting her trunk up into the storage area. Not the most tasteful thing to do admittedly, but the new girl had put Luna in a corner and she was desperate for anything she could exploit. She then realised with a start that she didn't even know what any of her new "train buddies" names were. Whoops "your such a little rain cloud sometimes Luna passing over people with out a thought all wrapped up in your own head." As her mother would often say. Maybe there was something to that. It was certainly proving to be true here. Luna did notice that the boy sitting across from her was indeed quiet tall for his age.
He'd been quiet when she entered, but at the time she wasn't exactly giving off "friendship" vibes so she didn't blame him.
