While the others were seen dancing with their friends and partners, Angel moved away from the noise. Slowly the grumble from the checked ground stopped after she walked away far enough that she couldn't be seen. Once she could see the soil grounds her legs slowed down. Holding the letter she saw from the Owlery before heading out. It felt tight for here and she couldn't mistake that feeling of being pulled from your stomach. What was this? Fear? Being responsible? Could never place her finger on it. Knowing she'd have a legacy on her shoulders was not something she wanted to know from someone she was not aware of yet, not even knowing their name.

Angel being the honest person she was did not know how to deal with the amount of stuff she knows now, it felt like she shouldn't even had opened that letter. How would her parents feel knowing that someone claimed to know her and the entire family? Surely they'd be livid. But again who knows if this was the only letter that was addressed to her? What if the person decides to reveal themself? Or maybe never at all? With her sharp breath she sat in the middle of the fields of what was to be the edge of the Courtyard. Only the Moon dimly lit the dark overcast of the night.

In a static position she stood there, motionless like a painting frozen in time. Her skin soften by the wind. For one can only handle such emotions, it was not something to burden alone. Alas she sat fixed her hair away from her face, her sight was much clearer now, and clearly she knew what to do. If it has to come to this then she has to carry herself in a way she hasn't. Trying to brush herself off she was about to walk away and head back but noticed another girl heading her way.

Amber was having trouble entering the ball. She had already convinced herself that she would go in. She knew that. She had dressed up. Found an old, somewhat victorian dress, put on some leftover jewelry that she had found in her house and borrowed a pair of shoes from a friend. She put together an outfit and pulled her hair up messily because she couldn’t be bothered to style it but here she was still faltering at the door.
Old Amber would have walked in 30 minutes ago. That was what she told herself. Why couldn’t she be like old Amber? But things had changed since her first year and her second year. And even since her third year. The nightmares. The adventures. The trauma. She tried not to think about them.
Instead she thought about the hours worth of effort she put into getting herself here. It was only one step. Then another. Then another. But she kept faltering.
There wasn’t even anyone to see inside. Kaya was probably there. Amber could see her. But Kaya wasn’t as hesitant as her. No. Kaya had barely changed, though they had gone through so much together. But Kaya didn’t have the nightmares. Or at least not as frequently as she did.
Amber couldn’t even remember the last time she’d had a good nights worth of sleep. She sighed. This was hopeless.
She was about to turn around when she caught sight of another girl. Clutching a letter inherited hand wearing a beautiful long dress this girl seemed to have noticed her too.
She had seemed to be in a rush somewhere out of the Waltz but now she had slowed. It was strange to see anyone out here, because almost everyone was inside. Maybe this was her chance to talk to someone. To actually enter the ball at some point.
She gave a small smile to the girl. She seemed younger than Amber. β€œAre you heading somewhere?” She asked.

The winds grazed her soft cheeks. It was lovely. A breath of fresh air. Her family hasn’t been communicating much. Which worried her greatly. What was going on inside their heads? Her mind was in spirals. Homesick. She wants to go home. The event was too grand. Not grand actually, she had seen much bigger buildings than the courtyard. Her own mind was working, overrides her ability to calm down, however not all was lost, it was a storm that will pass.

A voice came from afar. Oh not a far, close. It was a crisp sound that travelled nicely. Although when she turned the girl seemed hesitant. A questioned was uttered in her mouth. A questioned about where she was going on this dimly lit night. Angel would certainly not mind having a short conversation before heading back in the crowd again.

β€œAre you heading somewhere?” the girl asked.

The girl looked much older, she had a tired expression, one Angel could not mistaken. Poor lass. Was she having a hard time as well? Angel wondered where this girl was from. She had a look of sympathy on her face, maybe empathy. The girl looked very sweet. One’s burden was probably feeling lost in a new environment.

β€œUhβ€” no! I’m just taking my breath. It got very hot in the courtyard. Are you from here? You have a fresh face. I’ve never seen you before?” she replied with her question being more like a whisper.

The dark was lighting up and the moonlight was like a spotlight casting its light around the shadows. The trees that were once hiding shy and on the edge has been brought out as the light basked its rays. It truly was beaitful as her face shined too. Angel really was a beauty what a graceful swan.

Though what stood between them was silence, she need not to utter a word.
