Shopping for Supplies
"Books last," Dad said sternly. "And you can only get one book that is not on the list."
"One!" TJ cried. "At least two, Dad, come on."
"Listen to your dad," Mum said, as we entered the Leaky Cauldron. She looked around. "This place looks..."
"What?" TJ looked around, seeing small bits of magic already. A man's teacup was stirring itself while another was reading a newspaper with moving photos. Wasn't this the muggle side of the shop? TJ thought there was some sort of secrecy law that the professor told her about, but it seems like nobody here cares if a muggle sees.
"Muggleborn?" a man behind the counter spoke directly to TJ, like her parents weren't even there. She was startled, not used to being addressed directly when most adults spoke to her parents first. "I'll show you how to get in the Alley, and when you get your wand, you do it yourself, okay?"
With wide eyes, TJ nodded. Was she about to see someone do real magic with a wand again?
The proprietor brought the family out back to a brick will and tapped the stones in a precise pattern. TJ tried to remember it as she entered, but without practicing the movements herself, it was up to fate to make her remember, really.
"Let's get my wand first, then." TJ said as she stepped into her first magical town. "Which way...woah." She looked around in awe with her parents for a moment before snapping out of it. "I think I see the wand shop!"
