The Rose and the Rebel
Pet Application, 603 Words7/6/2026, Forward-DatedRosie was having quite a nice walk. She was in the woods near her house, just strolling around to clear her head. Her parents had been...well, maybe not quite arguing, but definitely silently hating each other. Things had been getting a bit...rocky, recently, but she just knew that they'd figure it out. The second her mum had said something, causing her dad to reply, she decided that leaving would be best, to give them some space to work things out without her in the way.
Now, she was listening as the light summer breeze whooshed through the trees, enjoying the feeling of the sun on her face, filtered through the branches high above her.
She felt quite safe in those woods, since she'd lived in that house and walked this very path since she was very, very young. She knew every twist and turn, every spot that was a bit crumbly, and every crack that she deliberately did a little leap to get over, just for a bit of fun.
She heard a bit of a rustling, then the sound of a small twig snapping. That wasn't all that uncommon, with squirrels, rabbits, and foxes calling the woods home. She continued walking, hoping to get a peek at what animal it was that was making the noise. She hoped it was a bunny, since she found those adorable, and wanted to see one to take her mind off of things.
The rustling sounded again, this time closer to her. That meant that the path was leading her the correct way, old and faithful. Then, she heard a bit of a 'squeak', which was interesting.
She continued walking, more skipping out of excitement now, until she spotted a flash of movement and bright fur in front of her. She froze, not wanting to scare the (hopefully) bunny away.
When she looked closer and saw the animal more closely, however, it was most definitely no bunny. It was a light pink colour, which was Rosie's absolute favourite. It was like this whole interaction was, well, meant to be! It rolled a bit, before coming to a stop.
"Hey there, little guy. What're you doing in these woods?" she asked, as she realized just what sort of animal it was. A Pygmy Puff, specifically the Pink variety. She'd read about them in some books she'd gotten from the Hogwarts Library. This one was absolutely adorable, and there was nobody around it. Could one take a Pygmy Puff for a walk? She had no idea. But it seemed to be pretty small, perhaps a baby?
She walked closer, waiting to see if it would let her. She was able to get close, and as she bent down to reach her hand out, it licked her! She squealed quietly, before scooping the little thing up and putting it onto her shoulder.
Well, she'd come out originally just for a breath of fresh air, and did not at all expect to find something as adorable as this. She looked around again just to double-check for an owner, after finding nobody, she decided that she was most definitely not leaving the little guy on his own.
"Let's go, dude! You can come home with me for now, and then we can go to Hogwarts together at the beginning of the year! It'll be so much fun!" she said, beginning to walk back home. She'd need to make an emergency trip to Diagon Alley to get him some food and other supplies. But, for now, she was just happy at the moment, with a new companion by her side.
