Selling and Studying  Solo
Brin walked into her work, having chosen to work at Florish and Blotts. Her goal was to study to be something related to Divination, since that was her passion when she was at Hogwarts as a professor. She had applied for a job as an Auror only to come to find out that she needed to take some OWLs and NEWTs in Astrology which is something she was never very good at. She took a deep breath and was nose deep in an Astrology book reciting facts out loud to herself that she thought would be helpful for her OWLs and NEWTs in Astrology. This whole thing seemed weird, that she was in her 30s and she was studying for tests like she was still at Hogwarts as a student.

She let out a loud huff and looked up. Still no customers to rescue her from the madness of studying her astrology. She anxiously tapped her foot on the cold, hard floor beneath herself. As she tapped her foot, she could feel it vibrating the chair beneath her and she used it as a distraction for a moment, she hoped and hoped a customer would come in so it would give her something to do.

Finally she heard the ding of the bell on the door, man was she thankful for that bell. She looked up and smiled. "Well hello! I am Brinley. How may I help you young lady? Are you looking for a specific book? Are you looking for a specific genre? Is it for a class? Oh... yeah sorry I'll let you talk. It's been a boring day. I am excited to finally have a customer to talk to." She said with a big smile on her face.

She licked her lips nervously and waited for the young girl's words. She wanted to help the girl and hoped that her overly excited initial conversation didn't scare the poor little girl away. When the girl didn't say anything and walked directly to the section that she needed, Brinley knew that she was being too over excited. She sighed loudly and took a deep breath before settling back to her astronomy book. If the girl needed something she would have to come up and ask because Brin didn't want to be in the way or be too pushy. She thumbed through the Astronomy pages and mumbled incoherently to herself.

The girl simply shook her head and stated calmly and quietly that she didn't need help. Upon hearing these words Brinley nodded once and then thumbed through the Astronomy book some more. She had found that she knew a lot more than she had originally thought that she did through her time studying Divination, and as a professor at Hogwarts. She gave herself a nod and moved on to another subject. She wanted to go back and pass all of the OWLs and NEWTs that she could so that her life would be set after leaving the position as Divination professor. She decided that the next subject of study would be Transfiguration because she thought that it was among the most important of subjects to be well versed in.

Upon reading about it she became well versed in the readings, and loved it. She didn't remember it being this interesting when she was in school, perhaps it was easier and came more natural to her now as an adult witch. She had focused all of her time and energy in Divination that she hadn't even considered a career having to do with other subjects. She flipped to a page that had to do with Untransfiguation and stuck her nose deep in the book. She was so deep in the reading that she hadn't even noticed when the young witch left without buying anything until she heard the door bell ring on the door. Then, and only then did she look up and see the door closing and the flash of a wizarding robe outside the door. She nodded to herself and put her nose back down in her book for another 30 minutes without interruptions.

The rest of her day went by just fine without interruptions or anyone coming to need anything from her. She decided to wander the bookshelves to fill some of her time. She made a mental map for herself what books were where, which is something that she realized she hadn't actually taken the time to do at all. She was shocked with herself, because she usually would do things like that. At least with things that she really cared about, and she cared about this job a lot. She was excited that it was going to be a stepping stone for her. She smiled to herself and put her Transfiguration book back in it's rightful spot and continued her mental map of the library in her head by looking at all of the books and where they were including how they were sorted. As she went she made sure to mumble the books to herself so she would remember. As she did this she couldn't help but think that she was grateful that there wasn't anyone in her besides her, so no one could judge her for her annoying and probably constant mumbling, because it was honestly just something that she did to remember things.

When it was time to close she stared at the unlocked door for a long few moments. It was probably around 30-40 seconds total but in the moment it felt like several minutes. It was as if a tiny voice inside her head was telling her that someone was due to come in any moment. That she should just wait another minute to see if anyone needed in. When no one came in she nodded to herself and took a deep breath before elegantly and gracefully going to the front doors of the shop and turning the sign to closed first. Then she stared out the window for a moment and then finally, grabbed her purse, her wand, and threw on her coat. With one final look in the shop, she turned off the lights then locked the door and headed on her way out for the day.

"Divination is not seeing the future; it's looking at the present from a different perspective and seeing connections that were otherwise invisible.”
