Laasya had never seen Pygmy Puffs, let alone heard about them. So Laasya was extremely confused when she started sneezing at random times. She wasn't alone though; many other students also had the same problem. It was a nightmare, honestly, doing whatever you're supposed to be doing in the castle, only for you to start sneezing. Then she realized the cause of all those irritating sneezes. It was none other than the cute pink and purple furballs also known as Pygmy Puffs. She had seen a few students keeping them as pets but she didn't want one, her cat Pearl was a better companion for her, even though she mostly slept and meowed loudly when she couldn't get enough sleep. But now she was thankful she didn't have a Pygmy puff for a pet because, as adorable as they might be, their fluff caused continuous sneezing for her. So on Saturday, the Charms Professor, Professor Townsend, decided to host a spring cleaning. Laasya wasn't very enthusiastic about going even closer to the fluff, but decided to help if it meant she and the others would be sneeze-free. She grabbed a few supplies and then went off to the courtyard.
When she reached the courtyard, she was in shock. The Pygmy puffs must have been shedding their winter coats for the spring because their fluff was everywhere in the courtyard. The fluff in shades of pink and purple lay in heaps here and there. Well, she signed up for this, so she had to clean it up or else almost everyone would suffer nicely. And besides, it would be downright rude to say you would help with the spring cleaning only for you to chicken out at the last minute. She picked up her broom and got to work. She started in one corner of the courtyard, sweeping the fluff into her dustpan. Every few seconds, she would have to stop to sneeze. "Achoo!" She sneezed, causing half of the fluff in her dustpan to fall down. She stifled a groan and swept it back into her dustpan. She wasn't alone though, many others cleaning the castle were also getting allergies to the fluff. Only a few were perfectly fine. Lucky them. Laasya thought to herself. Why did Pygmy puffs have to have fluff that everyone was allergic to? In 10 minutes, she had only managed to sweep a small corner of the courtyard as she kept taking breaks for sneezing.

Fluff In Pink & Purple

Sneezes echoed down the corridors were ever Ada went. Many of the students (Ada thankfully not among them) seemed to be allergic to the copious amounts of bright pink and purple fluff lining the castle. It was all over all of Ada's things and for once, Nox's cat hair seemed like nothing in comparison. Regardless of the color that the fluff added to the otherwise rather plain halls of Hogwarts, Ada was getting annoyed with the constant sneezing of her classmates.
The fluff seemed to be everywhere! Classrooms, corridors, the hospital wing. Even in the Gryffindor Common room! Ada couldn't go a single place in the castle that wasn't sneeze free! Even he grounds were covered in fluff and it was usually raining anyway.
This is getting ridiculous. Ada thought as two second year Hufflepuffs walked past her in a corridor one Saturday morning sneezing in between sentences. It was then that Ada realized that she had to do something about it. For the good of her classmates, or for herself, she didn't know...
Ada had been pacing around the castle for about an hour (she got lost only once) looking for a spot were she could start cleaning, before she found it: The Courtyard. It looked like the inside of the muggle vacuum her dad had brought home one time after one of his excursions (The muggles had accidentally vacuumed up a Doxy that was dwelling in the old house before the muggles moved in.). To put this into clearer words: the courtyard was completely covered in the pink and purple shedding's of the pygmy puffs.
Ada stood there for another minute or so, just looking around at the courtyards new colors, before she noticed a girl about her age knelt in one corner. From the looks of it, she was trying to sweep up the fluff. Ada could also tell that it wasn't going well. Every time the girl swept up some fluff she sneezed and blew it back onto the cobblestone floor. She must be allergic too. Ada thought as she watched the routine for a couple more heart beats, then walked out onto the cobblestone floored courtyard. Her footsteps were muffled by the fluff strewn about the ground. It stuck like Velcro to the hem of Ada's pants as she walked.
A strong breeze whistled through the courtyard, blowing the pink and purple fluff so it scuttled across the cobblestones like lots of tiny crabs fleeing from a seagull.
Ada set her pin covered bag down on a bench near the cleaning ans sneezing girl. and knelt down about ten feet from the girl.
As Ada started to clump the fur into a pile to her right, she realized how oddly light it was. As if it was made from pure color. Ada sneezed as the fluff she had been sweeping up scattered as a new gust of wind blew them in all directions.
Ada groaned. She would have to start over again. There must be an easier way to do this... Ada thought, stopping mid way through scooping up some more fluff.
Magic! Ada almost laughed at her own stupidity. She had been at Hogwarts for almost the full year, and she hadn't thought of magic!
Wracking her brain, she thought of all the spells she had learnt thus far. Well... She thought. I could levitate the fluff... no, that would be almost as tedious as sweeping them up in clumps. She shot down the idea. What about Scourgify? That cleans stuff right? but On this big a space...
Ada took her wand from her pocket and pointed it at the ground. She wasn't very good at spells herself. She tried to think back to the lesson, but her mind took her back even farther. To her ride on the Hogwarts Express were she had accidentally made Nox dance. She smiled softly, but she was glad he wasn't still mad at her.
Ada had managed the spell in class, It wasn't too tricky, but it was made for cleaning dirt and grime, not fluff. Still, no harm in giving it a try... I think. Ada thought as she pointed her wand at a small clump of fluff with her wand and said softly, but calmly: "Scourgify."
The spell, worked, though not as Ada had planned. The fluff was still there, annoyingly pink as ever, but one of the stones beneath it was no longer covered with grime, but smooth and clean. Ada laughed. At least I can do the spell! She thought, and she couldn't help but smile.

Fluff in Pink and Purple
LAASYA |
As Laasya cleaned the fluff away, she could not stop sneezing. It was bad enough when she wasn’t that close to the fluff, but now that she was much closer, it was way worse. There were about a hundred other things she could have been doing right now, but she knew very well that if she didn't clean it now, it'd probably be there for the rest of the year. Laasya noticed a girl cleaning near her who was probably getting allergies from all the fluff, too. The girl was in the same year and same house as Laasya. She couldn't recall what her name was, but she remembered that her last name started with an h. With all of it there, instead of the grey and green of the courtyard normally, which she saw back in November. Now, with all the fluff of the Pygmy puffs, which were various shades of pink and purple, it looked a lot like Candy Land. But there were obviously no candies here. Just then, she saw the girl using a spell to clean up all the fluff. How could I have been so stupid? Laasya thought to herself. I could have used magic. Luckily, she had bought a trash bag along with her. She put the fluff she had managed to sweep into one of the bags, then she took out her wand and chanted the incantation for the levitating charm on the fluff. "Wingardium LeviOsa." She said, and the fluff managed to get into the trash bag without flying away. She did that another time and, she saw that there had been some improvement in the quantity of the fluff. She had also noticed that her sneezes had decreased for some reason. She then went up to the fellow Gryffindor and said. "Hi! I'm Laasya. Laasya Manjunath. Who might you be?" It wasn't exactly a practical time to make new friends, especially while spring cleaning. But she decided to give it a go. |
