Ball-time panic
It was finally the day of the ball. A day that all of the castle had been looking forwards to for months. I'd sent a letter to my parents, asking them to send me a dress, and a pair of shoes, and they had done. There was no letter attached, which was weird, but that was a problem for another day. I'd gone up to my room half an hour before the ball was set to start, and I'd got changed into my dress, a lovely one, purple, of course, with golden flowers on it. My shoes were chunky platform heels, not particularly high, but still nice, in a pastel purple. I'd done plaits in my hair, and tied it up into a bun.
Then, I started going downstairs.
What seemed like the entire school was going down the stairs, all wearing fancy dresses and suits. I followed them, jumping when someone's dress touched the back of my leg, then wincing when someone stood on my toe.
Finally, I got downstairs, and looked into the courtyard where the ball was being held. It looked beautiful, for sure, but it was crowded. Far too crowded.
My legs suddenly gave way, and I was sitting just by the doorway, being ignored by everyone going past. I shuffled back, so I was out of the way, and put my head in my hands.
Too many people... so judgemental... me, all alone...

Ball-time panic
It is finally the day of the ball! Cassie has been looking forward to it for so long. In half an hour, she'd be in the courtyard, dancing and laughing with friends. The winner of the spring royalty will be announced too! There are just too many things to look forward to.
Cassie has been dressing up for nearly an hour. She has never devoted much time into balls, but she decides to attend it this year, since this is her first year at Hogwarts after she returned from China. She applies make-up herself, facing a small metal mirror her parents gave her as a gift. Her long hazel hair falls over her shoulders, subtly woven with delicate braids in an elegant style. Decorated in her hair are some small blue flowers, adding to her elegance.
She is wearing her favourite evening gown she specially chose for the spring ball. She stayed up a bit the last night, adjusting its details in colours with her wand little by little. She is now wearing a beautiful gradient blue long dress with fine golden patterns.Layers of soft tulle make her look light and graceful. She carefully chooses a necklace, a bracelet and a pair of shoes to match her ball gown. After everything is done, Cassie takes a last look at herself in the mirror and goes downstairs, heading towards the courtyard.
However, just outside the courtyard, she somehow notices a girl sitting by the doorway. The girl looks lonely. Why isn't she entering the courtyard? Cassie wonders as she walks to the girl. 'Hi darl, why are you sitting here? Are you waiting for anyone?' she smiles.

Ball-time panic
@Cassie JiangI turned my head sharply when the girl spoke. At first, I didn't realise she was speaking to me, until I realised I was probably the only person sitting by the entrance to the ball. Or, at least, outside the ball. My eyes widened when she asked me if I was waiting for someone - did she think I had a date?
"I... I was just about to go in. And no, I'm not waiting for anyone." I smiled a little bit, "Nobody asked me to the ball. Which is probably a good thing."
I hoped she would be able to hear me, with my quiet voice, over the noise of all the people walking past, chatting. Although, it was quieter now, most people having already entered.
I tried to stand up, but realised I was extremely unsteady in my heels, and I almost stood on the hem of my dress. I looked at the girl properly. She seemed older than me, and was wearing the most beautiful blue, gold and white dress.
"Are you a Ravenclaw?" I asked, as the colours of her dress were definately the house colours. Or, maybe, she just liked the colour blue.
"Are you waiting for anyone?"

Ball-time panic
It takes the girl a few seconds to realize that Cassie is talking to her. The girl talks in a light voice, which makes it hard to hear clearly in the noisy place, but Cassie manages to hear her clearly. Then the girl tries to stand up, Cassie can tell that she has been there for quite a while, since the girl spends a few seconds to find her balance. Instantly, Cassie holds out her arm in case the girl needs help. 'Be careful.' she says in a soft voice.
Cassie examines the girl more closely. She is wearing a lovely purple dress, which suits her pale skin well. She is also wearing a pair of pastel purple shoes with heels. 'Yes, I am a Ravenclaw.' Cassie replies. 'I am Cassie Jiang, a third year Ravenclaw. I do agree with not getting a date to the ball brforehand. I am always interested in what new people I might meet! Loads of opportunities...'
Cassie does have a crush, though she does not wish to let anyone know her feelings this early. This is one of the reasons why she doesn't have a date to the ball either. 'I'm not waiting for anyone.' Cassie smiles. 'Wanna go to the ball together?' Cassie asks, 'if you'd like.' she adds.

Ball-time panic
“Thanks” I say as the girl puts out her arm, obviously worried that I was going to fall over. I was also worried that I was going to fall over, as heeled shoes were not my strong point.
So, her name was Cassie, and she was the year above me.
“I’m Mirada. Second year Ravenclaw.”
So, she thought that I had purposely not got a date? That was the way her words came across, anyway. It was mostly just a lack of luck that led me to not have a date. I knew barely any boys at the school, and the ones I did know seemed to have either disappeared into thin air, or already had a date.
“Umm… sure! Let’s go in.” I was trying my best to be positive - I was going into the ball, which I was determined to do anyway. It did seem a bit strange going in with someone I barely knew, but Cassie seemed nice. And, it wouldn’t be quite as awkward as going in by myself, something that would possibly cause a few people to stare at me. I took a deep breath, before starting to walk through the entrance, into the spring ball.
