a gal with galleons
Cassie had been practically vibrating in her seat since she got on. It wasn't an exaggeration to say that her excitement was palpable, you could probably walk in and immediately be hit by the air of emotions she brought in.
This was her first year at Hogwarts. Hogwarts. School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was probably going to tire out the name, but she couldn't help it. This was the moment she had been waiting for ever since she was seven, when she had discovered her magical abilities. And tomorrow would start her journey into mastering her skills. What would she be learn? How good would she be in class? She was already pretty sub-par in muggle school, how would she fare here? What house would she be sorted into? Personally, she was hoping for Hufflepuff, but she wouldn't mind being in Gryffindor, like her father apparently was. She didn't consider herself brainy enough for Ravenclaw, and Merlin knows she couldn't possibly be sorted into Slytherin.
For the first few hours, she was left to her own devices in a small compartment by herself. Before she had entered Platform 9 3/4, her father had winked and given her a small handful of Galleons for the semester, so she had planned to spend a few of the coins on snacks. The currency system still confused her, though. She knew it was Knut, then Sickle, then Galleon, but was it 29 Knuts to a Sickle or 17? Were those even the right numbers? This was literally one of the most important things she was told to remember. How on Earth had she already forgotten the values?
"But magic is neither good nor evil. It is a tool, like a knife. Is a knife evil? Only if the wielder is evil."

ooc: first post! apologies if any of this is off/incorrect. And yes, the part about her not wanting to be in Slytherin is meant to be ironic.
"But magic is neither good nor evil. It is a tool, like a knife. Is a knife evil? Only if the wielder is evil."
