A Thestral Protest

Thirteenth of April, 2026. It was a quite cold Monday, but not a normal "quite cold Monday". It was the day of the SAAT protest, located on Gringotts. Poor Nick, with all this effort to organize the protest!
She arrived at the place few minutes after the organizer arrived, she guessed, because Nick was with the face expression of someone who was thinking. Maybe of the exact words he would say during the protest, but who knows?
As more people arrived, Nick started the protest. That action made her think what would be her "job". Protesting or getting people to donate and wear SAAT badges?
On one hand, making people donate money was a calm job that can guarentee that there was lots of funds.
On the other hand, protesting, can show to her classmates her capacity of ARGUING and her hidden personality, and, even better, change the world. Or, at least, change draw attention to some people.
Protesting it would be. "AT LEAST WE TRY TO MAKE THE TRUTH VISIBLE FOR YOU!! SUPPORT THE THESTRALS! MAKE THE TRUTH VISIBLE! SUPPORT THE THESTRALS!"
That made her rush to Nicholas to ask "Is there any chance that I can paint a piece of card or... Maybe better: do you have an actual poster or..." She assumed that he understood what she was saying. The words missing were 'something like that', probably, but She chose not to pronounce them.
Waiting for a reply, she stayed with the other activists, staring at random places. Nick seemed to take his time answering, what Alex thought that wasn't really a 'Nick thing'.

I had a notepad in hand in case anybody wanted to join. As secretary, I would probably have to keep track of what happens in our first protest. The club had grown to have a lot of people. I quietly noted down all their names. That was important as written documentation of the people present.
Gringotts was filled with people, going about their day-to-day business. The goblins looked at us tentatively, then ignored us. I had only been to Gringotts once before with my mum. It still surprised me. How dragons guarded some of the vaults and the roller coaster ride it took to go down there.
People looked up from what they what they were doing when we walked in. Nick gave a little speech about what we were doing, and it was pretty persuasive. I walked over to him to get some badges to hand out to people.
"Hi Nick! Can I get a badge box?"
He handed me one and I looked around for people who looked interested. A group of a few people were looking our way and I walked up to them. They didn't look like a family, so they were probably friends.
"Support Thestrals! They are greatly misunderstood. Show your support by wearing one of these badges. Please donate to the people who're collecting money! SAVE THE THESTRALS!"

Nick pointed that the needed material was inside a box, and that 'needed material' was a finished poster. Whoever made the poster had some writing and designing skills, she had to admit. The poster was navy with some thin big letters forming the words "We are here to get thestral rights... Cool!" Nick talked and talked and talked, stating that after he shot a possible Periculum, they had to march behind him. And he shoot it, with even more talking. Good 'talking', though. She lifted up her thick poster and accompanied the others, imitating their movements, but not their speech. "YOU!" she pointed at an old ministry worker "YOU" she pointed at a blonde Lady in her thirties holding a baby "aaaand YOU!" maybe its was too much. Alex pointed at the baby. She laughed and whispered saying sorry. "ALL OF YOU, IMAGINE HOW IS BEING A THESTRAL. OR EVEN ANY OTHER CREATURE. IMAGINE HOW HARD IT IS! IMAGINE HOW THEY SUFFER WITH THE HUMAN DISCRIMINATION. WITH THE ABUSE. WOULD YOU LIKE IT? I AM SURE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE IT WOULDN'T YOU? OF COURSE NOT! SO WHY DOES THE MINISTRY ALLOWS IT? I REALLY DON'T KNOW, HONESTLY." Alex spotted three children running and shopping just to watch them. Without being sure that it was aloud, she offered. "Hey, yall! You like this, uh? Maybe you could go and ask you mummies if you can join. Grab a poster and make some phrases up, no one will notice that you are not supposed to be here!" She watched the little kids rush to a young women. Changing little minds this way can really become changing great futures. |
