The afternoon sun beat down onto her. Anna clutched a thick book from the library in her grasp, eager to sit down and finally read it; A Beginner’s Guide to Unicorn Observation. She settled down adjacent to the Black Lake, its rippling dark waters shimmering in the sunlight. She had brought with her a few slices of bread she'd wrapped, just in case. She'd heard rumors that the giant squid enjoyed bread, and if it did decide to make an appearance, she was hoping to test that out. Until then...

She sank down into the warm grass, back pressed against the bark of the tree as she rested it there. Her eyes looked around at the grounds of Hogwarts school. It was still surreal to her. Surreal and so very new. A year ago, she would have never imagined anything close to this. And now, she was living in a massive castle, learning about creatures she once ever thought existed in stories, and reading stories about those same creatures she could very well one day meet.

I wish Sarah were here... She thought solemnly. Her best friend since kindergarten, Anna and she had been attached at the hip for as long as she could remember. But when she and her family moved, Sarah and her mainly communicated by phone call. Anna wondered if she might be able to send letters to her overseas friend.

Probably not. At least not by owl. Maybe she could have the letters sent to home, and her mom could send it by muggle mail. She'd ask her mom the next owl she sends. With that in mind, she cracked open her book, and began to read.
