The snow flurrying past the window chilled the cold air of the train as Jrue walked down the aisles. She eyed the little cubby compartments of the train, taking a deep sigh out of her nose as she gazed in at students smiling and laughing warmly. Seeing the other students so happy made her glad, but after her break maybe a little alone time was just what she needed.

Not that the vacation with her parents wasn't fun, rather a little busy. She felt there had been so much going on that she had hardly any time to think, and time to rest at all. It didn't truly feel like a vacation at all. Jrue adjusted the bag around her shoulder, eyeing an empty booth and looking about before sprinting to it, as to not be beat, obviously. She pulled her scarf up around her cheeks, the soft fabric warming her skin. She hummed as she sat down onto the cushions encasing the benches, taking her bag off and draping it across the arm rest. The coolness of the air was striking, but not quite uncomfortable. In an odd way, Jrue kind of liked it. She liked the contrast between the warmth and the cold. She raked her fingers through her hair, watching the clumps and flakes of snow flitter and float about in the air.

Jrue watched it silently for some amount of minutes silently, just admiring the beauty of the natural occurrence. It then struck her- she pulled out her wand and smiled, swishing it through the air and exclaiming- "Nix Facitur-" a soft flurry of snow appeared out of her wand, hardly enough to coat the chairs but just enough to perfectly charm the environment of the car. Jrue smiled, holding out her hand and watching as the flakes melted away on her fingertips. She flicked her gaze to the window again, pulling out her charms textbook and scanning it with her eyes softly.

She hadn't really attempted any of her homework over break. She probably should've, 100%. But the trip was so busy she didn't even attempt to open her books. The book in her hands was a dark rusty color, with words inscribed all along the edges of the spines and the cover. She opened it, a photo from her trip in place of her bookmark. It was an enchanted photograph, one of her mother father and her standing together and laughing, all smiling at each other in familial glee. She smiled, feeling nostalgic and awfully sad simultaneously. She placed the bookmark back into the book, huffing loudly and draping her legs over the side of the arm rest, leaning back onto the windowed wall of the train car. What a way to end a Christmas Vacation.

The train pulled out from the station in a flurry of snow and steam. He stood by a window and watched as the platform and the remaining families disappeared from view. He breathed out slowly. As he turned his back to the window. Going back to school wasn’t so bad. He quite looked forwards to it. But leaving home, and Drew, behind, was no easier now than it had been in september. Even though his sister encouraged him to go off and have fun, it didn’t make the guilt any less over the fact that Drew would never be able to come with him.

The same thoughts spun in repeat in his head as he started walking. Most compartments seemed to be full. People catching up after the holidays, laughing, showing off presents. It seemed as much fun to him now as spending a week in the library reading some ancient tombs of history. No, a quiet corner seemed more appropriate for his mood. So he passed compartments, one after the other.

Finally, he came across one that seemed at least relatively empty. Ripping open the sliding door, the soft snowflakes was what he noticed first. He had intended to be alone, but being cold and wet had not been a part of the plan. His eyes scanned the space as he stepped inside. Only then did his eyes find her. «Oh» The word escaped him in surprise. How had he not seen her? Probably because he was usually as observant as a brick wall was soft. «…sorry» He finally mumbled, shuffling his feet a little.

He cast a glance out in the walkway again, knowing he was unlikely to find another compartment as quiet as this one. «Do you mind? I promise I won’t bother you» He offered. He had found he had gained a bit of a reputation for being loud, so it was probably best to lead with the promise. He gestured a bit at her books. «I’m probably gonna do a bit of work too…» He had done a bit of homework during the holiday, getting plenty of much needed help too. But being home, there were much more fun things that soon stole his attention and time.

The tiny snowflakes flurried down onto Jrue's knees and eyelashes and every other surface of the compartment, shimmery and beautiful. The small batch of snow was just starting to fade away when the compartment slid open. Immediately across from her was a rather gangly boy. She recalled he was in her class, just a Firstie. They had astronomy- or was it potions- some class. His name, though, was not something that she had been able to remember. She noticed his striking green eyes darting around at the flakes of snow flittering about, causing the girl to tuck her wand beneath her legs in embarrassment.

He spoke sincerely, imploring that he wouldn't be too much of a bother on the girl. She cleared her throat, nodding her head and watching as he closed the door to the hall. His name.. I have to remember it- "Of course- I'm not gonna study, truthfully. Thought I could trick myself-" She tapped the book that she had marked with the photo on the cap of her knee, sliding that underneath her legs too. She had thick wool tights on, and fluffy leg warmers atop those. It was just enough to keep her warm in the chilly compartments. She had remembered the lack of temperature regulation the vehicle had from the first trip she took on it, back in the beginning of the school year.

Her eyes landed on him again, letting out a sheepish smile. "I do apologize for the snow- I was in the tropics all of break, thought I'd have a bit of fun..." Admittedly, she hated winter. It was truly one of the worst seasons. Not that she wouldn't enjoy it whilst it was here, but given the option she would live somewhere with just the perfect balance between sun and clouds, warm and cool. A nice 21.5 C, if she wanted to get precise.

She fiddled with the fabric around her neck before delving into her brain, trying to do anything she could to remember his name. She figured it was just her imagination, but the small talk felt awkward, the rumbling of the train filling up the gaps between talking. It's something long- but it has an easy nickname... Benjamin? Was his name Ben? Or... Michael? He doesn't look like a Mike- Max! That's it! The memory of his title had returned to her. How she was able to remember it was beyond her. She hadn't spoken to him or been partnered up with him ever. Pure luck, as it seemed. "You're- Max, yes? I believe we share a class, or something along the lines. Maybe I just believe you're familiar from seeing you in the hallways-" She leaned forward, smiling with her pointy teeth out. She folded her hands over her knees. She could forgive him for interrupting her silence. This time, at least.
