Taking time to oneself was rather important. Jrue’s father had always told her this. Whether you were exhausted or at home by yourself, a good session to sit and listen to your thoughts was needed. For instance, Jrue’s endeavor to the lake. She paced along the edge of the body of water, mary jane’s strapped to her feet. Sunday afternoons were beautiful. A purge of the soul, she’d once read in a book. Maybe that was just what she needed. Her classes had seemed extra daunting lately. Very stressful, for some reason or another. She hated to wake up for her classes, hated taking notes. She was in a slump. And Jrue Peterson never got in a slump. She had her hands in her pockets, blinking softly with half lidded eyes at her reflection in the silently rippling water.

The sunset on the horizon was gorgeous. Jrue felt a sort of emptiness in her chest, but this was gone, eased every time she lifted her gaze up to the sun. Stupid sun. I’m glad you’re leaving- always bright and burning and.. and- Jrue kicked a rock, watching it skip across the water once and sink into the greenish blue water. She looked away, hands in her pockets hot and stinging. She crouched down at the water, watching it ripple at her feet. The ball was coming up, she realized. Perhaps she was better off not going. It was just a lame excuse for her to get dolled up, and eat pastry, and talk to people she didn’t know. But she was prefect- it was kind of an unstated thing that she had to go. It would be embarrassing for her not to go.

But I have so much homework- She stood up, dragging her hands down her face in dread. Why was this all so dreadfully difficult? Jrue had figured that going to Hogwarts would make life easier, with magic and mistique surrounding her. But somehow everything seemed harder. She couldn’t fathom why. She raked a hand through her hair, flipping out her wand and turning it in her hand. Maybe her mother was right all along. Magic did feel like a curse. Too much to worry about, too much to learn about. She pointed the wand at a rock. “Snufflifors-“ She casted, watching the pebble beside her transform into a mouse. She scooped the rodent up, gazing at it in her hands. Maybe if she became a mouse it wouldn’t be so difficult. “Silly me… I don’t know how to turn you back now. Maybe you’ll reverse yourself-“ She bent over, letting the mouse run away into the grass beside the lake. The rock was probably better off that way. Were rocks even conscious? Was the rock conscious now that is was a mouse? “… Oh my stars-“ Jrue collapsed onto the sandy-gravely ground, staring up as the sun snuck further behind the Scottish mountains. So much for taking care of herself.

S kylar hums to herself as she walks along the Great Lake. She has been here a lot more often lately, for some reason. The lake always seems to call to her, tempting her to watch its calm waters. She tilts her head up to look at the setting sun. The sky almost seems to be a painting, the orange and pink clouds gliding past peacefully. A flock of birds fly past, their V-shape formation cutting through the air like a knife.

Gravel crunches under her boots as she continues to meander her way through the small path. Her hair flows around her as the gentle breeze blows past her, the grass rustling next to her. The fresh air is nice, she thought. Skylar was about to head back towards the castle when she catches sight of a scampering mouse. She squints at the peculiar little rodent, wondering where it came from. Rodents are not exactly rare around the Great Lake, but Skylar has not seen much of them. Her eyes trace where the mouse came from, only to notice a figure in the distance.

The figure seems to be a girl. Her brown, silky hair blows in the wind. Skylar tilts her head in curiosity as the girl plops down on the ground, lying on her back. Huh. Making her way to the girl, she notices the student is looking off to the sunset. Curiouser and curiouser.

Eventually, Skylar reaches the girl on the ground. Leaning over her, Skylar's bright blue eyes meet those of a dark, shimmering grey. Skylar grins as she greets the mysterious student.

"Why hello there! The sky is quite lovely, innit? My name is Skylar. Skylar Blue. Do you mind if I joined you?"

Blue sky that was just beginning to fade into warm tones and white clouds puffed past Jrue's vision as she gazed straight up into the air. She sighed again, and shook her head, clasping her hands over her eyes. Had her mother seen the way she was acting, God forbid her Grandmother, she would've been scolded twice over. She moved her hands back underneath her head, only to be greeted by something else blue in her vision now.

A head of blue hair was now towering over her, face tilted at Jrue's own, causing her to sit up and clear her throat. "Sorry, I didn't spot anyone else out here-" She wiped at her mouth, eyes still attached to the girl's face. She didn't recognize her at all, simply just another mysterious classmate she had at this God awful school.

Now she was just being negative and cruel. Jrue scratched her neck. "It's alright, I guess. Maybe a little dim, bit nice. And sure, be my guest-" She gestured rather lazily, throwing her arm about before folding her hands into criss cross apple sauce beneath her. She turned back to face the girl again, a quizzical look on her face. "Your name is really Skylar blue? Did your parents get lost in the paint section?" There was a beat. "Sorry- I didn't mean it. I'm not so agitated most of the time. Just super ticked off right now, if you couldn't tell." Wrapping her hands around her arms, she puffed out her cheeks, trying to breath as rhythmically as she could.

Great, now she even had a headache. This day was truly unreal. She was just so irked by everything. Even the mouse irked her, and she made the mouse. Maybe this girl would be able to brighten her day. She had that annoyingly bright aura about her. The one Jrue usually had, but had decided to take a vacation today. The girl was friendly enough- she seemed friendly enough to visit and give two knuts worth of a care about the Hufflepuff. Any other classmate likely would have turned a blind eye.
