Sorrel Alana Wright was born to her newlywed parents in a small wizarding community called Appebly. Mona Wright (née Sousa:･) and Miles Wright were a kindly wizard couple, looking to escape the perils of the wizarding world, recovering from life under Voldemort. Mona Wright was a Brazilian witch who detested herbology and magizoology. Needless to say, she did not good grades at the Brazilian school of magic, Castelobruxo. She moved to England in search of a better life and a way to provide for herself and met Miles at the ministry, where he was working as a member of the muggle relations team. Miles hungered for a better life and met a kindred soul in Mona. The two clawed their way through the ministry ranks, never truly happy.

When Sorrel was born, the couple imposed their dreams of stardom and wishes of being an auror on their small child. From a young age, Sorrel was never ambitious. Her first sign of magic was weaving flower crowns without her hands, and the girl's only magic after was related to the flowers in the family's garden. It was obvious, even from the early years, that Sorrel was the herbologist her mother was not. Still, the family tried to stamp out the absurdities of plant obsession from their small child's head, but the sweet-natured child could never understand defense against the dark arts or why people feared Voldemort. No, she just wanted to make her flower crowns.

Extremely shy and withdrawn, Sorrel boarded the train for Hogwarts when she was 11, scared out of her mind. Timid and as frozen as a deer in headlights, nobody expected the curly haired girl to even make it to the sorting hat. Yet, Sorrel staggered up and jammed the hat on with shaking fingers. She did not want to be at Hogwarts, nor did she want to sit in front of the whole school with their scrutiny and cruelty. It took the hat four minutes to debate Sorrel's house, making her a minute away from becoming a hat stall. The hat decided that Sorrel would be best in hufflepuff. However, Sorrel, intimidated by that house’s reputation for being nice and having friends, requested a placing in Ravenclaw to benefit her shyness and her apparent need for knowledge about plants. Their silent wrangling resulted in Sorrel being sorted into Ravenclaw.

To her later chargin, Sorrel was welcomed frostily into Ravenclaw. She could have made friends, but every attempt to have a conversation with the dreamy girl would end in a lecture about the importance of dragon dung or the dangers of mandrakes. Evidently, plants were the only friends Sorrel had, and she assumed other people would enjoy her same passions.

They did not. It took a year for Sorrel to become the target of bullies, looking to pray on the shy girl with the bizarre knowledge. During her third year at Hogwarts, Sorrel realized that she was different in another fundamental way. She was not attracted to boys the same way everyone else was, and that knowledge made the withdrawn girl shrink away even more. She told one person and the whole school found out, which lead to the small child wanting nothing more than to leave Hogwarts.

So it happened, Sorrel had one friend at the school. The current Herbology professor, a weathered old woman, had been close with Sorrel for all the three years of Sorrel's Hogwarts experience. At the end of her third year, Sorrel's beloved Herbology professor suggested that Sorrel transfer to Castelobruxo. Desperate and depressed, Sorrel swore she would go to the school of herbology and bid her esteemed professor goodbye, promising to write.*

* The two continued a correspondence up until the untimely death of the woman, and Sorrel still cherishes her advice as an adult.

She was supposed to be a fourth year at Hogwarts, but Castelobruxo was so much better. From day one at the stone edifice of a school, Sorrel was in love. The students there shared her love for plants, there weren't thousands of stairs to trip over, and all the professors were as interesting as the old herbology professor at Hogwarts. It was safe to say that Sorrel was overjoyed with the way life was turning out.

Then, she made her first friend, a girl named Estela. The two bonded over a shared love of plants, but grew close through shared secrets. Estela taught Sorrel portuguese, and in return, Sorrel taught Estela more about plants. Estela was Sorrel's first crush, and it was an extremely turbulent time for the young girl, who was confused about everything, and was especially confused by her growing feelings for Estela.

The two shared secrets, knowledge, and everything. It was fitting that they shared their first kiss too. Sorrel would say that Estela kissed her, but in truth, the shy girl kissed Estela first, in a rare show of bravery. Sorrel was so sure that they were going to stay together forever, and when the two started dating in Sorrel's second year at Castelobruxo, all was well.

Sorrel spent her years at Castelobruxo with her group of friends, a rowdy bunch of Brazilians with nothing better to do with their lives, besides sneaking out of the castle and playing with the forest guardians, the tricky little Caipora. Sorrel had never been happier than when she was at Castelobruxo, and for the first time in her life, Sorrel wasn't the shy girl. She was part of a pack, and was valued for her knowledge, but was also appreciated as a person.

When Sorrel graduated from Castelobruxo, she was so happy she thought she would die. Things only went downhill from there, though. After graduation, Sorrel traveled the world. She never expected to be a head of house at Hogwarts, but somehow, there she ended up.
