Picnic

It was one of the best days of Tala's life. Not only did she have a friend, but said friend actually wanted to spend time with her! Not to mention that she was the one to approach Tala, thus freeing her of the burden of thinking that she was being pushy and that the girl thought her annoying and didn't want her around and would eventually leave her because of it!
She kind of tended to overthink a little. Well...maybe a lot, but that was besides the point anyway.
Even the weather agreed. It was a wonderful spring day, the sun just warm enough to be comfortable, and a gentle breeze blew the tendrils of hair that managed to escape from Tala's braid into her eyes.
Balancing some of the stuff Veda brought for the picnic she so generously invited her to, Tala tried tucking the strands behind her ears and turned to the second year girl with a shy smile. "Thanks for inviting me. That was really kind of you." She hesitated for a second before continuing, "Are you going to the spring ball? The girls in my dormitory have been talking about it non-stop."
Looking at the second year, she noticed that Veda seemed to have this radiant energy. Everything about her seemed to shine. Her genuine smiles that left you at ease, how kind she acted toward everyone, making you believe like she really cared about you even if you've just met. Tala didn't have any sisters, but she imagined that this is how it would feel to have an older sist-
Tala stumbled over a stone, but righted herself up quickly before anything fell down. She had been so lost in her thoughts that she hadn't noticed it. How could she be so careless? And after it had been going so well. " Everything's ok. I - I didn't drop anything." She looked at Veda as if to gauge her reaction.
