Marcella wished she had eight more sets of eyes. Diagon Alley was filled with many magical curiosities. Birds, cats, rats, and many other pets in many different colours. Colour-changing ink, books on jinxes and gobstones. The place was filled with amazing things. The di Angelos had got the required money out of their bank vault. Valen di Angelo, Marcella's father, had gone to buy books for his study. "Now, now, before we go exploring, we have to go get you fitted for your uniform", Maria, Marcella's mother, said.

"Didn't you say you had to buy stuff from the Apothecary?" Marcella asked as she continued staring at all the new wonders the wizard London presented. Her mother nodded. "But nothing's more important than my Tesoro."

Marcella grinned, "But Mama, I'm a grown-up now. I want to get fitted alone!" She said strongly. Her mother heaved a heavy sigh. "Fine, but stay safe! Meet your father and me at the Ice cream Parlour, alright?" Her mother made her pinky promise as Marcella readied to run off.

Marcella entered Madam Malkin's with a hesitant smile. She was welcomed and soon was ushered onto a fitting stool. There was another boy being fitted into the stool beside hers. He was a slim-built dude with a short, messy mullet. He looked delicate, almost ethereal. His beautiful doe eyes sparkled as he turned to her.

"Hi," she said hesitantly, "My name is Marcella di Angelo! I'm starting Hogwarts this September, how about you?"

Ezra felt more anxious than usual on the crowded streets, he clasped his father's hand tightly as he walked beside him. "Stay close, Ez." His father had said. His mother was at home with his younger sister, he would have much preferred if they had tagged along. He wasn't exactly close with his father, but any familiar face was good enough in this unknown ocean of strangers and odd things. He furrowed his brow as he and his father tried to understand the list they had with them. His father had said, almost to himself, "I knew you were special, kid but I never thought.." He trailed off, with a chuckle.
That was what seemed like eons ago. He was now stuck in an unfamiliar shop, on a stool being fitted for his uniform. He felt awkward and out of place here. There was too much to look at, all the time, everywhere. He was getting overwhelmed. He hardly noticed the kid approaching him until she spoke.
"Oh, uhm, Hello?" He replied uncertainly, glancing at his father, who was curiously examining another part of this shop, too far away to ask for help with this encounter. Not that he would have helped anyway. His father was under strict order from his wife, Ezra's mother, to give him the chance to understand this world on his own. He remembered the advice from his sister on making friends, now is as good a time as any to try it out, he thought.
"I'm Ezra. Ezra Calloway. I like plants. And books." She had asked him a question, he realised with horror. What was it? He hadn't been paying attention. He groaned internally. Spectacular work, nitwit! now you've completely ignored her question! For all you know she could've asked where the door is! No going back now. He fidgeted on his stool, hoping she understood that he was trying. That's what his father always said mattered most, trying.

She offered the boy a warm smile. Distress lined his delicate features. Marcella felt bad for having put pressure on him. "You like books too? I love them so much,"" she said, trying to ease his nervousness. "Oh, and I asked you whether you'll be attending Hogwarts?" The boy seemed sweet and kind. Marcella smiled warmly at him. She could imagine them being friends for a long, long time.

"What house do you think you'll be in?" she asked, contemplating her house choices. She wondered whether she'd get sorted into Slytherin. Most of the di Angelos were either Slytherins or Ravenclaws. Marcella's father himself was a Ravenclaw, while her mother, though, was a Gryffindor. Many thought she'd be in Hufflepuff due to her kind and positive behaviour. She was the only di Angelo, along with Marcella's Uncle Corintheu,s who was in Gryffindor. Aunt Hemitha was a Muggle-born witch who was sorted into Hufflepuff. "I think I might get sorted into either Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. But I'm leaning a bit more on the Ravenclaw thing. My father was a Ravenclaw, and he may be a bit house-proud," she said, chuckling, as she remembered last Christmas, when he had dressed entirely in navy blue.

"What sort of books do you like to read? fantasy? romance? sci-fi? horror?" she asked, smiling. Marcella felt that she was talking much more than usual, but it was really hard to stop. Marcella felt very comfortable with Ezra despite having only met.

Ezra he smiled back, internally sighing with relief that she hadn't thought him weird. "I'm attending Hogwarts." He replied. Me. I'll be learning how to be a wizard. A real wizard. The reality had dawned on him that he, Ezra Calloway: Average tween, was indeed magical. He found it kind of insane that it took him that long to actually believe it.
"Well... I'm not really familiar with the houses, but my dad read about them and said I'd be fit for Hufflepuff." But he doesn't really know me that well. He added to himself, his shoulders slumping a bit. This girl seemed nice. Marcella wasn't it? He felt proud of himself for making a friend already and that gave him some confidence.
"I'm actually a huge fan of sci-fi works and comic books! I'm a fan of Marvel and DC comics, I own a small collection!" He said excitedly. No one had ever asked about his books before. Then he realised she might not be familiar with them, they were muggle books. Magical people, wizards, probably had their own types of books. What if she thought his superhero comics were silly? After all their 'superhuman' abilities are probably nothing compared to what real wizards and witches could do. And he was going to be one of them! His nerves washed away and he was instead filled with excitement and hope for the future. Thank you, Marcella. He thought happily Thank you talking to me and thank you for bringing some hope with you. I hope we can be good friends.

"ooh Hufflepuff? That's Amazing! You'd be so lucky to be sorted into Hufflepuff!" Marcella felt a twinge of envy. THE HUFFLEPUFFS WERE NEXT TO THE KITCHEN!! She thought. "Y'all are next to the kitchen. Oh, just imagine it, an endless supply of delicious, mouthwatering food just a few paces away from you. I'd die to be a Hufflepuff. If I end up as a Ravenclaw or a Slytherin, I'm nowhere near the kitchen," she said, mock-fainting. Being dramatic is a trait of Marcella's that she never showed to anyone. But with Ezra, it was as simple as breathing.

Marcella listened as he spoke. "You read comics too?? I mostly read Marvel's Spider-Man comic. That guy's amazing. My aunt Hemithea is a Muggle, and she always takes me on trips around Muggle places. She had bought me lots of Muggle books and comics. Many purebloods are underinformed about the Muggle culture and their traditions. But my aunt made sure I wouldn't miss any of the fun the Muggle world has to offer." Marcella was almost done getting fitted. "Would you like to join me afterwards? My family and I are going to Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour. It'll be my treat," she smiled kindly at Ezra.

Ezra giggled. "Guess I would be lucky if I was sorted into Hufflepuff, then. But don't you worry, I'd glady sneak you a snack or two." He paused, "Well, if it's allowed, of course." He added, with uncertainty.

He burst into laughter at her theatrics. He felt warm inside, is this what friendship was? He loved it. He loved talking with Marcella, she made him laugh and made him feel seen. His face lit up when she mentioned one of his favourite comics. "Woah! I love Spider-Man! Your aunt sounds very cool, all my aunts are pretty boring." He replied, slightly envious.

He grinned from ear to ear when she invited him to come with her, but his face fell immediately. He realised how much he and his father had yet to complete before nightfall. "I really wish I could join you, but I still have a lot of shopping to do. And me and my dad have to get home by dinner." He admitted, disappointed. "Ezra! Are you done yet?" His father called from near the reception area. "I'm really sorry, Marcy. I've gotta go with my dad. It was really great meeting you though. Maybe I'll see you in school? Maybe we'll have classes together! Wouldn't that be awesome?"

"I'd love to get a peek at the kitchen at least once," she said, smiling at the image formed in her mind. "If you're gonna sneak in snacks, we have ot be aware of the prefects," she added, with a small smile.

"Really?" she said, happy that she and her new friend shared something in common. Marcella's cheeks became an adorable shade of pink. He sure is an amazing guy. "Aunt Emmie, sure is fun, but my other Aunt Maybell isn't. I had my first instance of magic at her house!" She said excitedly.

Marcella's face fell as Ezra said he wouldn't be able to join her. "It's okay...I guess there's always next time," she said, fidgeting with her hand. She didn't want to part from her friend just yet, but sometimes people part for a great cause. She took a Raven bookmark, which she had made, from her pocket and handed it to Ezra. "A token of our friendship," she said, grinning. "I hope to see you at Hogwarts, Ez!!" She yelled as Ezra exited the shop with his father. I hope we meet again, dear friend. After she had finished getting fitted, she thanked them and left the shop with a big smile on her face. She couldn't wait to tell her parents about her new friend.
