She'd finally gotten through all her assignments. Poppy couldn't say what had gotten into her professors in the last week or so, but the result was brutal: stacks of parchments with essays, a few worksheets, readings under the threat of potential 'pop up tests' and only one first year to get it all done.

Was it any wonder, then, that the moment Poppy closed the last of her textbooks, she'd grabbed her camera and headed out onto the grounds? There was no guarantee that she'd find something worthy of capturing every time she set out, but the little girl had developed the habit of keeping her father's camera close, eager for the next scenic moment. Merlin knew there were plenty to be found at Hogwarts. In fact, that was what drew her to the lake.

Persephone knew that, at a certain time of the afternoon, the sun hit the lake just right, and its glassy surface reflected that light beautifully. One could imagine her disappointment to find the sky overcast as she exited the castle.

The first-year walked anyway, hoping things might clear by the time she got there. Poppy moved toward the edge of the water, where the sand was damp and cold. The weather was getting warmer, but not warm enough for her to brave dipping her feet in the way she used to back at the start of the school year. In another month or so, she would wade knee deep again, taking note of the stones that settled beneath the still waters. If the stones were pretty enough, she'd take a few back with her.

The nightstand back in her dorm was getting full of them. Soon, she would have to start making some hard choices on which ones she could keep.

Remaining at the edge of the lake was enough.

The skirt she wore kicked up in the breeze of the windy afternoon, the gusts tickling the ends of her blonde locks to give them flight. It would rain later, perhaps even storm. Already, there were darker clouds tumbling in from the east. They hung low, heavy, sluggishly moving to darken the skies over the Scottish Highlands.

A clap of thunder drew her attention upward as another gust swept its way through.

There was a stillness in the air, as if nature itself awaited the downpour. Until then, she would enjoy the view and keep hope alive for that miracle break in the clouds that would send a beam of light pouring down.

A beam on such a day would make for quite the shot.
