New Genesis
Home... strange to think of the place I grew up as home. I lived there my entire life, yes, but isn't home supposed to be a place you looked forward to, felt some sort of comfort?

My father was a member of the House of Phillips, an old Irish house. But he never acted that way. He distanced himself from all his family, including myself and my mother. He was not a cruel man, but he never shows affection. Instead he comes off as distant and exacting, a man who values discipline and control. My mother was thoughtful and patient... seeming to understand me without needing many words. Her years with my father did not make her cold, but it did make her tentative and quiet.

I guess it all worked out in the end. Because of the way I was raised, I learned to watch people and figure them out through subtle tells. Yes, it has made me introverted, and a bit distant from others. I have never had anyone I can truly say was my friend. There is family, and those who wanted something from my father.

When I received my Hogwarts letter, I was intrigued to start this new journey. I can't say "happy", because that word is barely in my vocabulary. But, I knew it would get me away from this place i have called home and allow me to start a brand new life. Maybe along the way I would find people I could be closer to, if not friends with.

Now I sit upon the train, heading for Hogwarts. It is just, different. Too many people around me. This is not something I am used to. I am not rude, and I greet those who greet me. I do not, however, go out of my way to introduce myself. I sit there, patiently waiting to begin my new life... a New Genesis in the chapter of the book which will tell my story.
