The Wand That Waited

Miren spent most of the day visiting different shops in the Diagon Alley, getting everything she would need for her first year at Hogwarts. Auntie Ava accompanied her, rambling about her own first days, however, the young girl didn't really share her enthusiasm. In fact, there was the usual cold calmness around her instead. While she couldn't deny that she was looking forward to finally seeing the notorious castle herself, she was also painfully aware of the fact, that it should've been her mother, who helped her with all the preparations. No matter how much aunt Ava tried to provide the young girl with everything she might need after her mother's death, it just wasn't supposed to be her, whom Miren was walking with towards the Ollivanders right now.
With a stoic expression ever so unusual for someone her age, Miren stepped inside the shop, leaving aunt Ava outside. She took the opportunity to look around while waiting for someone to show up, her eyes roaming over the hundreds of slim boxes, no doubt containing wands of all sizes and qualities. How does one even know their way around in all of that? It was impressive to say the least.
Soon enough, none other than Mr Ollivander himself appeared behind the counter, welcoming her with a warm smile. "Well, let's get to it, shall we? I think I know exactly which one is right for you," the man added before pulling out one of the boxes and opening it. "Go on then, try it." The wand itself was beautiful, but apparently not fitted for Miren. With a single swish, dozens of the other boxes flew out of their places, tumbling to the floor. "No. Absolutely not." The elder man wandered off, only to return handing Miren a different wand.
The same outcome repeated multiple times before she finally held the right one. "There it is. 29,8 cm mayhaw wood and unicorn hair. Powerful and very selective of the wizard it chooses." Mr Ollivander informed her, clearly completely satisfied with his work while Miren looked at the wand in her hand. Yes. This wand would get her to places, others could only dream of.
