I was pacing down by the Great Lake. It was February 26th, my birthday, but I had to find someone named Kennedy. You see, this morning I had gotten a package that said, To; The Birthday Girl. But when I opened the present it was a sketchbook with the name Kennedy on it in gold cursive letters. I loved my Owl but it sure was clumsy! Everyone comes to the great lake right? Maybe i'll find the girl. you'd think I would be smart enough to owl the girl but I didn't. I held this sketchbook that was still surrounded by yellow tissue paper in my hand, hoping that I would find someone who has the name Kennedy. Included with the sketchbook was a Hufflepuff headband so I thought that the girl must be a Hufflepuff. It felt quite embarrassing to be walking around the great lake and asking almost every Hufflepuff if it was their birthday or anything. The cold wind was biting at my nose. I wanted to go inside, not everyone probably thought it was a good idea to be outside on this cold day. I started to make my last round around the lake. As nice as it was for a end-of-february day,it was still cold. I went up to one last girl and tapped her on the shoulder. "Is it your birthday or something? Is you name Kennedy by any chance?" this girl was holding a pink box tied with a book and had long dark brown hair that was almost as long as mine.

It was Kennedy's 12th birthday, her biggest fear was that she was going to be homesick. Never once in her 11, now 12, years had she spent a birthday away from her parents. At least her brother was here with her, and they had eaten breakfast together, but he had a class during her free period. It had made her feel lonely. She knew it wasn't that big of a deal, after all she had never enjoyed her birthday much, it only signified her getting closer to having to actually grow up. But she missed the celebration with her family.
To make matters worse, when she had received a gift from an owl this morning, it hadn't even been for her. She had received a pink box addressed to "The Birthday Girl." If the bright color didn't give away that it wasn't for her, the note that followed surely did. The name Tina was in calligraphy on the front, and Kennedy didn't open it for respect of privacy. Kennedy spent the morning wallowing in self pity, but she also felt a pinch of guilt in her stomach. She was not the only person missing a birthday present. Tina, whoever she was, was missing her gift too. With a new burst of resolve, Kennedy decided to go looking for the girl. It couldn't be too hard to find a fellow birthday girl, but Kennedy was proved wrong. She had searched everywhere she knew to look, and she still hadn't found the gift's owner. Worst of all, she had wasted most of her birthday looking for someone impossible to find. She stopped her search at the great lake, and breathed a sign. It was a rather chilly evening, and everyone had made their retreat inside. Kennedy was about to give into the idea of a warm dinner when someone tapped her on the shoulder.
"Is it your birthday or something. Is your name Kennedy by any chance?" A girl asked. In her hands was a yellow gift bag and Kennedy felt her heart leap out of her chest.
"Yes! Would you happen to be Tina!?" Kennedy held out the pink box she had been carrying around all day. She was curious to see the girls reaction to whatever was in the box. And she herself was excited to she what her parents had gotten her. She had been asking for a new sketch book since right after her birthday last year. Hope bubbled up inside her as she waited for the girls response, was this finally the person she had been looking for?
"I can't believe that there could be such a mix up from the owls!" Kennedy laughed aloud.
It felt good to laugh, she hadn't been able to truly smile all day.
