Meeting Nibbles
Ever the ready- minded Ravenclaw, Sophie arrived to Potions early, excited for her first lesson. The classroom was much bigger than she expected, as her fourth- year older sister Abigail had always described it as a dim, dusty little dungeon. However, Sophie found it to be a pleasant enough little place. Stepping a bit closer in the direction of the Professor's office, she saw a very interesting- looking plant. It was a green, with a yellow tint and white petalled flowers clustered on top. Smiling, she walked closer to the cute 2- foot plant. On the large clay pot it rested in she saw, in large, clear letters, the word Nibbles. "Hello," she said softly, "Is that your name? Nibbles?" The plant, although obviously unable to speak, appeared to nod slightly. Still smiling, she began to reach out her hand, and -
"I wouldn't," advised a light voice behind her. Sophie turned around to see a tall Hufflepuff girl watching her. "Oh," she said, blushing, "Sorry. Is Nibbles yours?" The Hufflepuff shook her head. "No. It belongs to Professor Asmaralaya, but I would have thought anyone could tell that it's a carnivorous plant." Turning back to look, Sophie saw a few small bones around the floor next to the pot. "Oops," she said, still red in the face. "I didn't -" But luckily, just then the Professor whisked in, saving her any more words.
Taking her seat and watching the Professor toss a few chunks of meat to Nibbles, Sophie was quite thankful that the Hufflepuff girl had stopped her fingers from becoming the plant's lunch! Next time, she thought, I'll make sure to look first!
