Laurie sat down on the floor dropping her bag with a thud. A third-year had given her something on the way, wrapped in a parcel. She tore apart the paper, to see a self-help book. She groaned, set the book aside and cursed under her breath. Those brats. What did they think she was, some kind of toy to be meddled with? She never cried, no. But today was different. A tear slipped past her cheek and she wiped it away. What was she doing, showing emotion? Emotion is for fools. Laurie told herself that long ago. She was supposed to be the cold, lonely girl everyone steered clear of. Not some crying fool. Her aunt and uncle had raised her better. At least the times when they were there for her. She took out her potions homework and set it down on the table. A four page essay on the Drowsiness Draught and what ingredients are used in it. Laurie took out her quill and just as she was righting, “Valerian is the main ingredient used in the Draught” she accidentally blotter her paper with ink. Great. Just more work to do. She raised her head and saw some Gryffindors nearby, having a conversation. Well, her skill of lip reading had some importance here. “….no friends…..just creepy…alone….cold…I feel sorry for her.” They were talking about her, of course they were. Was she just that to them? A cold girl who might not even be alive? Laurie rolled her eyes and got back to her work. The one thing she could do was keep her grades up to not disappoint her family. At this point they were more like coworkers. Laurie never actually understand what put her in Slytherin. Maybe it was her cold demeanour. Maybe it was her lack of willingness in life. Well she definitely wasn’t questioning it. She was where she was and she could do nothing to change that. There was no point in imagining another life, for it was this one she was present in. She then noticed another Slytherin girl behind the racks. It was almost like…everyone feared her. Just like they avoided Laurie. She smiled, the reason behind the reaction unknown. She then felt a sudden push from behind. Her books fell and skid across the room. Laurie cursed under her breath. Those fifth year Slytherins really were a menace. She then gathered all her books and counted them to see if she had missed one. Sure enough her Transfiguration book was near the next table. The table in which the girl from before was sitting. She hesitantly walked over to her. She knew she would regret this later. “Hi. I’m Laurie. I think my Transfiguration book fell here.” She said the line confidently even though inside she was wincing, waiting for the girl’s reaction.

The castle was buzzing again, voices layered over voices. Even the Slytherin common room hadn’t been spared this time. The castle felt contaminated. Like a slow-spreading disease, infecting every corridor, every corner, every classroom.
So I left.

The library was supposed to be different: a more quiet place for the assignment I had to do.
I made my way to my usual table: isolated from the rest of the library yet close to the tall bookshelves.

I set my things down. My quill, parchment and ink.
Ahh silence, at last.

For a moment, I just sat there, letting the silence finally set.
Then. I got interrupted.
Voices. Too loud. We're in a library for God's sake. They seemed to be talking about someone else. From what they were saying, they couldn't even do it well.
I couldn'y see who though they were speaking about...

A sudden clatter of books hitting the floor.
I exhale slowly through my nose. Waw. I dropped my quill on the table, putting my thoughts together again.

I dip my quill into the ink, firmly holding the parchment.

“If you’re going to make a scene, at least do it properly.” I muttered under my breath, not loud enough for anyone to hear as I start to write my answer, the words flowing in my head like never before.
“Hi. I’m Laurie. I think my Transfiguration book fell here.” her voice pierced through the silence, which made me clench my jaw in irritation. So much for focusing in the library.
"Haven't seen it." I replied harshly. Honestly, I didn't even check if her stupid book was here, I was only focused on the fact that she made me lose my flow state.

OOC Note: Sorry for such a short post :sleepy:

Well, she had done it now. She had asked the question. And the girl didn’t…seem so happy about being disturbed. That was an understatement. It had been a long time since anyone had openly talked to her like that, and, strange enough, she actually found it quite funny. Like she saw herself in the girl. Just a little bit. While everyone else was too scared to say exactly what they thought, she wasn’t.
But, hey, if she was going to speak like that, Laurie wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to speak in her mother tongue for once.
Haven’t seen it? Then you don’t have eyes, clearly.” As she said that, there was a bitterness in her voice, while underneath she was stifling a hint of a smile. No, she couldn’t let her see. That would just give a boost to the girl’s ego, which was high enough already. She'd been told hers was high too, and maybe it was.
Laurie studied the girl. Sharp features, cold sneer. Had it been a different person, they would have been scared of her. Laurie was just amused.
What’s your name? Not that I care…
She left the statement hanging, waiting for her sharp retort.

I went back to my work, assuming the girl would just walk away and leave me alone.
But she didn't.
“Haven’t seen it? Then you don’t have eyes, clearly.”
I paused, immediately stopping writing as I dropped my quill brutally on the parchment paper. I slowly turned my face to the girl, my expression blank. She sounded so proud of herself.
It was kinda sad to see. Pathetic honestly.
At least I wasn't blind to how ridiculous that sounded, "Oh I have eyes, but honestly I'd rather have none than your level of awareness." I said, my tone piercing cold.
I briefly looked under the table and did notice a book. I couldn't care less about it, so thinking this conversation was done, I picked up my quill and started writing.
The stranger didn't move and she started speaking again, "What's your name, not that I care..."
Then why ask? Funny way of showing you don't care, the contradiction was almost impressive...
This girl was starting to really irritate me. I didn't look up at her this time, "I'd tell you but you don't seem like you're worth the effort. Besides, you already have heard of me" As I finished my sentence, I wrote my last essay word. What a great finish.
I held my quill in the air as I looked at my final essay. Perfect.
This girl probably thought I was an easy target.
Pity she didn't notice how loud those girls were speaking about her, because I heard every word.

As the girl replied with those cold yet sweet words of hers, Laurie simply smiled, knowing that it would irritate the girl more. Yes, it definitely worked. She could see her jaw tightening. Just to irritate her further, Laurie sat down instead of going away. She almost smiled at the irritated look on the girl’s face. Oh, how she missed those days when she could talk freely about people without them judging her so-called upbringing.
No, I most definitely haven’t heard of you. And, you should learn to respect your elders. If the word respect even is in your very limited vocabulary.
She looked over the girls essay, thoroughly impressed by her writing skills. She even used her commas properly. Not bad for an idiot. Of course she wasn’t going to tell it to her, so she acted as if the mere sight disgusted her.
How old are you? 4? Please, even a three year old could write something better than that rubbish.
Just as she said that, a journal fell out of her bag.
Nononononono. It just had to be her songwriting one. She scrambled to pick it up before the girl saw. That was the one thing that kept her sanity intact, this couldn’t be happening.
