It was all just a little bit weird.

Diana had just finished her birthday celebrations when she found out. A Wizard. Or, well, Witch, technically. From there, it was a whirlwind of new, unusual and strange. A magical shopping area where you could buy everything from wands to flying sporting goods. A set of textbooks that she'd been religiously studying to not look all too out of place when it came to interacting with her peers. A mystical bus that taxied her across England all the way down to London. (Diana did pause briefly to consider the logistics of travelling from the North, down to the South, in order to then take a train back North.) Almost strangest of all was the instructions she'd received alongside her ticket. Kings Cross Station. Find platforms 9 and 10 and then walk through the brickwork. The little Witch had lurked for a while beforehand, watching people coming and going, before finally allowing herself to tentatively try pushing through. It was a strange thing to do, but then again... what part of this entire process hadn't been strange?

That's how Diana found herself on the Hogwarts Express. The mousey little First Year was still dressed in her Muggle clothes. A light seafoam green jacket and t-shirt beneath, alongside jeans. Diana lounged back in her seat. She had the place to herself and, for the first time in her life, was experiencing shyness. So many people were out there, joking with one another, some already dressed in robes, flanked by a menagerie of different critters and creatures alike. They were all just so... used to this. If it were any other trip, Diana would be out there, introducing herself and trying to make friends. But... baby steps.

Fumbling with the lock on her trunk, Diana tugged free one of her textbooks, idly leafing through the pages. In one part, for fear of a several-hour-long train ride that would have her bored half to death. The other; a calming, soothing ritual. A way to make sure she'd not be caught off guard too much by whatever it was, like when she first got there. Surely, it couldn't be all that bad, right?

It was here.

Miren was finally about to enter a new stage of her life and become a student of Hogwarts. This was something she always wanted, ever since she'd heard about it for the first time from her mother. And yet it was completely different from what she'd dreamt off. Her mother wasn't here to give her a proud smile before the train departs. No, it wasn't her, it wasn't her father but aunt Ava instead. And while Miren wasn't exactly sad, she was far from the happiness and excitement of the usual first year.

Miren said her goodbyes, before getting on the renowned scarlet train without even a hint of a smile. The expression she had was completely cold and distant and only grew more annoyed after having to deal with multiple other students in the narrow corridors. And what was worse – all of the compartments, which she passed by, were already occupied. Inconvenient, at the very least. The last thing Miren wanted, was to engage in a conversation. This journey wasn't starting so well.

Unfortunately, she couldn't find any empty compartments even after a few more minutes of walking. That's when she finally came to a stop with a frustrated sigh, closing her eyes for a moment, before looking towards the cabin next to her. One person. Guess that's as good as it gets. With that thought, her hand reached for the door and opened it. "Hey. This seat taken?" she asked in an unbothered monotone voice, though it didn't exactly sound like a real question. Especially not, when she walked inside with her trunk immediately afterwards and took a seat opposite the other girl. Miren couldn't be bothered to give her as much as a glance, crossing her arms and leaning back with her eyes closed, trying to get the message across. She didn't want to talk.

Diana smiled back over towards Miren. Company. Okay, that was good. Golden Retriever energy against a Lone Wolf. Surely. That would only end well. There were no objections, be they in vocals or body language, to Mirens' entering. Indeed, Diana even shifted in her seat, ready to help or offer to store the others' trunk should that be desired.

For a whort while, Diana said nothing. Just allowing the silence to sit between the two. For her new company to be able to relax a little more and enjoy a vague facsimile of the solitude she desired. Diana was decent at reading people. The frustrated sigh, the eyes closed over, they were all pretty obvious clues to leave well enough alone.

A half hour passed.

Another person in this world of Magic. Just like her. Probably in her first year, if she had to guess, also? It was just too tempting a prospect not to engage with on some level. With Diana already being a person who'd gladly chat somebody's ear off if given half the chance to .. poor Miren may very well end up regretting her choice of carriage.

Breaking the Ice, at the very least, came easily. If clumsily.

"Hi, sorry. I'm Diana. If you're awake, I've got some food in case you're hungry. Nothing too crazy. But I got some fruit, I got some butties, and I've got some brownies for the trip." Said fruit, sandwiches and sugary treats were laid out across the seat next to Diana, like an offering to a slumbering deity. She didn't push things, of course. She didn't make motions to hand them over and tried her best to keep her body language lax, as not to imply pressure. Diana was, likely, thinking way, way harder about this whole situation than she should have to.

Of course, this being another Wizard... the opportunity was too golden, as to where she was unable to completely stay muted. It bubbled up in her chest, like a dragon's fire. Before. Exploding out. "Are you from a family of Wizards? I never knew anything about, well, ANY of this before I got visited and got my letter. It's... it's really exciting. Scary, sure, that too. But, it feels like a whole 'nother world I didn't even know existed. Have you known for long? Do you know much the school? I've read there's a bunch of different really famous groups that we get into and they all have some pretty cool stuff, so, I'm excited to see where I set in on that as well, gosh, sorry. I'm...excited. Hi."

Despite how it may currently seem, Diana was actually socially confident most of the time. Just the shakeup from her unusual rhythm to this heavy an amount, the feeling of being alien, a fish out of water, an outsider...it was equal parts scary and exciting for her. And she'd latched onto every Witch and Wizard she'd met so far with a mixture of authoritarian respect and awe.

At first, it seemed like Miren might've gotten lucky with the company she chose. Diana didn't say anything and allowed her to keep her distance. For now. Eyes closed, arms crossed – that's how she intended to endure the rest of the ride. Time passed by in silence for quite a while and Miren wanted to keep it that way. Diana, however, did not seem to share that wish, finally breaking the heavy quietude.

For what felt like a good minute or two, Miren refrained from answering or moving. Ignore her. Pretend you're asleep, she thought to herself, but something made her speak up anyways. "I'm Miren. Not asleep, not hungry, not interested." It was a short and curt reply, without opening her eyes and sparing Diana as much as a glance, but a reply nonetheless. One that, she hoped, would get the message across, if the previous silence didn't.

But alas, just like before, it was only a matter of time before Diana spoke up again. And this time, she blurted out much more than just a friendly offer of food. So much more. It did, however, make Miren finally open her eyes and shoot the other girl a sharp glare, looking her up and down, as if contemplating, whether it was worth even trying to talk to her.

It was a whole lot of questions, half of which required answers Miren did not want to give. "Mum was a witch," she replied shortly, not intending to elaborate her family situation any further. That was the last topic she wanted to get into. Talking about one's alcoholic father, who despised her for what she was, wasn't exactly pleasant, afterall.

Unfortunately for poor Diana, who was understandably striving to get to know as much as possible, Miren ignored most of her questions and excitement. "You talk an awful lot for someone who claims she doesn't know anything." While Miren wasn't trying to be exactly mean, she couldn't be bothered by acting nice either. There was a short pause before she continued with stoic: "Well, Diana, all I know for sure, is that we won't be sharing the same House, or group, as you called it." Not a chance. They couldn't be more different. Despite that, Diana was one of the... Less annoying people Miren had met, although she would never admit it.
