Spring was arriving.

It had been nearly one month since the hockey match in Russia, and the bruise on his nose was still an ugly mis-match of yellow and purple. The bruise was barely the greatest of his current issues, but it was certainly the most visible. That and his unrest. Mingling with the splotches on his nose and cheekbone were two dark circles resting just beneath both his eyes.

There were quite a few plausible reasons as to why his brain seemed to be working overtime. Most notable was the fact that his past three owls to Sabine had fallen on deaf ears, not unusual for the busy girl but certainly not desirable either. All the magic in the world was at his fingertips and yet he still had no idea what Sabine could possibly be doing that kept her away from her desk for nearly a month. His studies also didn't help his restlessness. It seemed every exam only worked to push him further and further towards the ledge of academic ruin.

Beyond all that, things were fine. Winter had already begun clearing up at the vibrant French school. In fact, the night prior, it had even rained. Maurice's relief came in the form of a soft sigh as he peered out his dorm window to find the sky had cleared enough for gentle sunshine to light his room. He allowed himself a few moments of groggy bliss to study the rain-slick courtyard from the safety of his window, before pushing off the window-sill and beginning his day.

Though Maurice had spent the majority of his time at Beauxbatons regarding his much more fashionable peers with vague disdain and much vaguer insecurity, today felt like a homesick day, so he shrugged on a tattered t-shirt over a waffle knit sweater and imagined things were just as they had once been. He had days like this once every week, or perhaps every month now, where the crushing weight of nostalgia would press down on him from sunrise to sunset, and all he could do was flatten himself as thin as possible and hope his organs would follow suit. It went without saying that this method didn't typically yield positive results.

It was bad today. Pajama pants felt appropriate. So, it seemed, did the ferocious mop of dusty blonde hair that sat like a nest on his head. At the very least it was early enough that the halls were mostly clear, aside from a few wary professors and careless early birds.

Bruised, exhausted, and dressed in a sun-bleached t-shirt and pajama pants, Maurice ventured out of the castle and into the warm morning.

It was early. Too early for me. However, I'd woken up, and, despite lying in bed for a bit of time, I couldn't settle back to sleep. So, I'd picked up the bag carelessly slung by the edge of my bed, and tiptoed outside.
I sat down outside, and pulled out the book in my bag - one of my mum’s journals. I opened it up to a page part way through, and started reading, enjoying the sensation of light sunlight on my neck. I turned the page, and saw that there was an object there - another one of the little pressed flowers I’d often found. This one was a little daisy.
I put the flower into the little purse I was now using for them, and stretched out my neck.
But then, I saw a person coming outside. He seemed to be wearing pyjamas, and seemed mostly asleep. I wondered if he was sleep-walking, as he hadn’t seemed to see me yet, despite my hair almost glowing where the sun hit it. But I looked at his face, and saw that his eyes were open, and he had a massive bruise on his nose.
I closed the diary, and said loudly, in clear French:
“Are you okay?”

Vivienne couldn’t sleep. She just couldn’t, no matter how much she shifted in her bed. This had been happening for a few days now, yet Vivienne was scared that she might disturb someone during this time. She checked the time, it was just the crack of dawn. Nobody would be awake by now. Finally, when she couldn’t count any more sheep, as they always rematerialised into some kind of wild animal, she crept out if bed, moving slowly so that she wouldn’t disturb any of her dorm mates. She would usually go to a quiet classroom to practice her dancing, but she had just twisted her ankle yesterday and was in no position to even do a simple spin. She looked down at what she was wearing. Pajamas with trains on them. She wrapped a cloak around her to save her the embarrassment if anyone saw. She hadn’t even been here for long and she would already be loosing her dignity around the castle. Quidditch practise yesterday was tough. It was way too foggy to see the snitch, but a good seeker should learn to adapt in all kinds of situations.

She walked outside, inhaling the fresh morning air. The weather was the one thing she didn’t miss back at home. Well not exactly, she also didn’t miss her old history teacher. And a whole lot of minor things she didn’t have time to think of. How long had it been since she had written a letter to her mother? About two weeks, when Vivienne had promised to write once in three days. Well, at least her parents won’t hold it against her, they knew how busy it could get. Vivienne had made sure to tell them that in advance.

She then snapped out of her trance, and saw a boy and a girl standing and talking. That was strange, Vivienne had thought she was the only one awake. At least she wasn’t the only one wearing pyjamas. They both looked senior to her, and a minute later she recognised them from the Quidditch team. She walked up to them, hesitating inside as she wasn’t a very extroverted person.

H-Hi. Couldn’t sleep too?
