Broom Racing Tracks
The Broom Racing Tracks define a vast and unpredictable stretch of Hogwarts grounds. Here, the landscape refuses to remain the same for long, not by natural unpredicability but rather magical intervention. At times the Broom Racing Tracks are covered by jagged ridges that carve their way across the previously verdant terrain, while waterfalls spill from cliffs that are fed by no visible river. In this place, groves of trees have been known to appear overnight, their roots settling as if they had always been there.
Though the land shifts and reshapes itself, it is not without warning. The area is carefully maintained by the house elves and the tracks are not considered particularly dangerous unless you are speeding through the area on a high-speed broom despite the occasional wandering of mildly hazardous magical creatures within its borders.
It is here that Hogwarts holds its broom racing matches. Constructing a proper racing course is no simple task. House elves spend weeks, sometimes months, experimenting with the landscape: carving tunnels through ridges only to discover they are too narrow to fly through at speed, or too long to keep the race engaging. At other times the terrain proves too forgiving, lacking the twists, hazards, and sudden changes that make a course worthy of competition or observation.
