New Fluffy Friend
*This story takes place in Diagon Alley, where Denisse is shopping for things she needs for her new school*
After she bought her new books and school robes, Denisse and her family decided to stop by Magical Menagerie to buy a new pet since it's on the list sent to her along with her Hogwarts letter. This is her chance at last to get what she always wanted: a cat. She once was begging her parents to get a cat, but they've told her "No" multiple times. Since it's in the list of things she needed to get to Hogwarts, they have no choice but to buy her a cat with their newly exchanged wizarding currency.
When they entered the shop, there is a variety of animals, from owls on their respective perches to toads inside tanks. There were cages of pets on every inch of the wall. It was very cramped, noisy and smelly with every inch of wall covered by cages. The pets range from Streelers, Fire Crabs, rats, raven, puffskeins, and much more. Denisse eagerly looks at the cats, and there's one that got her attention. Her dad gave a strong suggestion that she should buy an owl instead since it's more practical and that she can send letters to her parents. Denisse gave in eventually, not wanting to argue with her dad.
"First year, eh?" a raspy voice called out. A witch wearing black spectacles popped out of the counter. "Looking for a feathered messenger or a feline friend?"
"An owl please," said Atty. De Vera.
The witch led them to a central area where the largest and most varied collection of owls resided. She showed Denisse a magnificent Eurasian Eagle Owl with eyes like polished amber. "Very reliable," the witch chirped. "But a bit temperamental if you don't feed it on time." Then the cat that caught Denisse's attention. A blur of silver came out from the box. The cat squirmed between Denisse's legs. It was a Silver Siberian
with oversized tufted ears, a bushy tail, and eyes the color of an icy blue.
"Move along now, Katya," the witch scrammed. "They're getting an owl for their post,"
The cat didn't move. Instead, it sat down in front of Denisse and blinked slowly, looking up at her.
"Let's look at another owl. Maybe something more affectionate and a fast flyer." Atty. De Vera insisted.
The cat then let out a sound that sounds like a low, vibrating chirrup. It placed her paw upon her left foot. "She's never done that before," said the witch. "That's a Sentinel cat. They don't just hunt mice; they hunt trouble. If she's latching onto you, it means she's sensed something in your future she needs to keep an eye on."
The cat just kept staring at Denisse with such loving eyes. Five minutes later, Denisse along with her parents walked out of the shop, holding a fluffy weight on her forearm.
"Guess you'll have to use a school owl for the post." Atty. De Vera muttered. The cat called Katya responded with a low purr.
