For Graci Laren, the holidays were always an odd time. There was never a graceful way to get back into routines like nothing happened. Like she hadn't just spent another half a school year feeling lost and lonely in the castle she called home oftentimes. She did not mind it of course, no, everything was perfect and happy because how could it be any other way? Being glum was out of the picture. Per usual. And it certainly didn't help that around break times it felt like her mental state was the swirliest, most throw-up worthy rollercoaster the world had ever seen. Not that she'd ever been on a rollercoaster.

The excitement of being home and the usual Christmas 'festiveness' had been at an all time high. But the crash and burn of the normal winter loneliness where it feels like all the sunshine and light had been sucked from the world was back. In all its glory, she liked to think. The snow was not bad, per se, but the slush it brang and the cold it carried were unwelcome. Spring was far better, even with all the people sneezing their heads off.

So there she was. The beginning of Christmas break starting off with unboxing books. A welcome distraction, as any friends she did have in London {MaKayli and Lindin} were off on holiday with their parents. Her own parents were busy, and she'd forgotten how much her parents liked to read. Their version of quality time was sitting in the same room with books and tea. Not a bad thing, but certainly boring.

Many people came in around the holidays, the city bustling with all manner of people. Graci adored it, as it gave her mind a reprieve from all the gloomy winter feelings. Sometimes. A distraction, at least, keeping her occupied to the point she almost wished to curl up in her bed and hibernate for the next century. Almost. Hibernation would be awfully boring.

A forgotten pile of books was growing heavy in her arms. It went almost past Graci's chin, limiting her view of most things in front of her. A recipe for disster when one took into account her clumsy tendencies. Don't fall. Don't fall. Don't fall. She repeated the mantra in her head like it would actually do anything. Falling was the least of her worries. The book pile was compiled of those books annoying people leave on the wrong shelves because they're leaving and didn't have the decency to put them back where they found them. How unthoughtful, the thought came with a sigh. Graci really didn't mind, she never could. Why? Because everything is always fine, wonderful, and I couldn't be happier.

Then she was bumping into someone. Just her luck.

ISABELLA B. FLORES
==========.DECEMBER in a BOOKSTORE with @Graci Laren

=== Isabella Flores fiddled expertly with the door, and to her annoyance, it took quite a few tries to open. That damed glove. Once inside, the girl sauntered through the crowded bookstore, admiring the festive decorations and the cheerful chatter that filled the air. The holiday season always injected a sense of vibrancy into the city. Her arms had been taken up by three large shopping bags of sweet confectionary and decorations, and she was practically beaming. It was only good to stop the rigid composure every once in a while, she supposed.

It was quite the out-of-the-blue decision to end up in a bookstore again after a relentless semester filled with assignments and late nights in the library. After all, what she truly craved was the comfort of her gigantic walk-in closet. Yet the girl desperately needed to replace the books that had become tattered and ripped over the past three months - Merlin knows how that had happened. Besides, Lady Flores had her own business a few shops down, and Isa would rather write ten more essays on gargoyles than follow her mother around.

She spotted a few familiar faces but didn’t linger. A Christmas tune was playing in the background, and not before long Isa found herself drifting between aisles, pulling books from the shelves, scanning titles that had caught her eye.

Blinded by the Christmas decorations in the bookstore windows as she turning a corner, she’d miss seeing a certain person walking by until it was too late. Their body slammed into hers and the crowd of Christmas shoppers slowed to a sluggish crawl in the blink of an eye. Or in this case, the time of a fall.

A moment passed. And then another as she groaned in pain, rubbing her arm before shoving a book away from where it had jammed into her side. It was then when she got to get a good look at the imbecile - or more specifically, a girl with wavy brown locks and a rosy complexion far too flustered.

“Seriously?” Isa raised an eyebrow as she brushed another book off her leg. This time red. “Perhaps you're blind. I wouldn't blame you.”

If the moon smiled, she would resemble you.

Utter embarrassment flooded her veins. Every single pinprick of shame, flustered-ness, and utter horror at her actions manifested into a surprisingly tame, though still tomato-like, flush spreading over her face. Down her neck and too the tips of her ears, too. The burst of emotions so completely fried her brain that it reverted back to it's normal state. Behind her eyes, surely, the horror could be seen. Likely why it took a few moments to process the other girl's words.

But Graci was not one to blunder so badly as to not clap back immediately. Sure, the smile on her face was probably a bit out of place in the terse conversation. Who knew she was a nervous smiler. Or perhaps it was just a default. "Oh my gosh, I am so so sorry. Are you hurt?" It seemed Graci did not, in fact, possess the response skills she once thought to have obtained. "But, ah, no. I am not blind, unless you know something I do not? Just extremely clumsy, and with my vision temporarily blocked."

Wishing she could melt into the floor, Graci instead took a moment to actually see who she had bumped into. Her own age, if she had to guess. Slight of frame, eyes like her own, and hair a most gorgeous shade of blonde. Of course it's the pretty one I bump into. Thankfully, this whole instance would soon be forgotten and the two would never again have to meet. Rarely did Hogwarts' students stumble into the quaint little bookstore, so she was mostly safe. Hopefully.

Graci started picking up the books, hoping this girl was not hurt even the slightest. Regardless of how rude she seemed upon first introduction. Then was the matter of delicate pages. You might think that one who grew up surrounded by fragile books would be more careful. Evidently not. A slight grimace at a slightly bent page, smoothing it back out. If only I could so easily apologize to a book. Not that Graci ever went talking to inanimate objects. If only that much was true, then she might be able to feign normalcy.

Pushing off from her knees, she stood up with the small amount of dignity she still retained. A quick adjustment of now awry hair, then she was offering her hand. An olive branch in a sense, though Graci thought it rather unlikely to be accepted. "Again, my apologies. Hopefully that didn't hurt too bad." After the initial embarrassment had somewhat worn off, though not really, a growing pit of worry was the only thing remaining.
