A Sweet Treat

It was a beautiful, bright and hot summer's day. Warm, liquid gold rays of sunlight streamed through the stained glass windows of Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour, dancing across strands of black-brown hair, flashing a rainbow.

Maeve took a deep breath, gazing out the glass in a reverie. It was too good to be true, she was going to Hogwarts to learn magic. Her mother was now out browsing the stores and had given her some money and told her to wait at the Ice Cream Parlour for her. She had ordered a chocolate ice cream with rainbow sprinkles and was now waiting for it to come. Too good to be true, she thought. She had always wondered if she was different, special, when she awoke her magic, she was estatic. And now, she would really be going to Hogwarts. To learn Charms, Transfigurations, Potions and many more exciting subjects.

"A chocolate ice cream with rainbow sprinkles?", a voice asked, jolting Maeve out of her thoughts. "What? Oh, yes, thank you." She bowed her head and nodded, taking the bowl.

The glass bowl was delicate, with flower decorations and leaves set in glass. The ice cream had little frost crystals forming on the surface, the food colouring from the sprinkels were already melting into the dark, velvety texture of the ice cream. Maeve lifted the spoon and scooped a corner of the ice cream goodness into her mouth.

It was an explosion of flavour, the sprinkles dissolved with just a touch of her tongue and melded perfectly with the chocolate, balancing out the bitterness with its sweetness. It was bliss. Magic will be fun, she decided, gazing out the window, I wonder if my sister will like it too, when she goes to Hogwarts in 3 years. Maeve made a note to ask her mother if they could buy something and bring it back for her little sister, Isla. For now, she would continue enjoying her sweet treat while waiting for her mother.
